Do you know a family member that is suffering from post traumatic stress because of their stint in the military, perhaps you know someone who suffers from it for another reason, a very severe trauma, I have a friend whose husband suffers from it because of his work in the police, he saw some pretty nasty things in his line of work, another friend suffered from it after his divorce, do you know of anybody and what is their story?

I myself have Post-Tramatic Stress Disorder. It developed because of the abuse in my childhood and was made worse in 2001, when I was robbed at gunpoint. Mine is not as servere as one would get while fighting a war, nor is it as bad as a policeman's would be. My worst symptoms are that I have an exaggerated startle response and have terrible anxiety. My nerves are shot. Some of this may have even been inherited from my mother, but the life that I have lived, has only made it worse. I am not able to drive because of my anxiety. I am also not able to watch horror, violent, war, or police type shows and movies. Sometimes I joke that I am afraid of my own shadow. I take Paxil and Aterax for the anxiety and also to help me sleep.

rozie, thank you for your response, I understand, it has to be so difficult, and hairdresser that is fine by me, I hope you both find good friends in each other.

You know, I hadn't thought about the not driving link. I can't drive either, though I've tried to learn several times. I just can't do it, because I freak out.

Oh alright Hairdresser. I have already accepted your friendship on Live Spaces. I was notified by e-mail when you requested my friendship earlier. I will go now and check out you profile on Mylot. Sorry to know that you also have PTSD.

My father has it from WW II, beack then it was called battle fatigue I think, or was it shell shock. He is now pushing 90 and has had emotional problems since i can remember. He receives a 100% disability from the VA and goes to see a psychiatrist but nothing has seem to help.

My dad suffered really bad post traumatic stress after he came home from Vietnam. My mom said there were times that she was actually afraid to sleep in the same bed with him for a while because he would swing and scream. He slept with his eyes open for quite a while too she said. I had really bad post traumatic stress after a really bad casr accident that almost killed me in the 90's. I couldn't ride in a car for like 3 months and I couln't get myself behind the wheel for almost a year.

I was always afraid my grandmother's second husband would really hurt my grandmother in bed, but she was never afraid when he was sleeping.

I had Post Traumatic Stress Disorder for many years because of abuse I suffered when I was little. I started B.E.S.T. (Bio-Energetic Synchronizing Technique) therapy and now I no longer have panic attacks and nightmares. I am able to live a normal life now and I am so greatful to my B.E.S.T. therapists!
