How do you get referrals?

I want to get some referrals of myLot.Untill now I have got 26 referrals ,but just few of them are active here.I guess it's because they can't read English very well.Yes,I want to ge some referrals from English sponken counties,but don't know how?
We in China use QQ,a instant chat software,which I can add a lot of random friends,and tell them about myLot.
Do you know any good way or good sites I can get some referrals?And what kind of instant chat software do you use?Can you at random people to your friend list ?
I also want to improve my English through instant chat.

I am not good at referrals yet but I can help with the English! I am good at grammar and punctuation as well as spelling! Plus I want to learn more Chinese language and stories, songs, poems and customs!

I have to say good night now, but I will tell you I use gmail now and it si great for chatting! I can even view Chinese characters! I also use msn, and yahoo for chatting instantly! I have not done so in a few months but if we ever are awake at the same time, we can try chatting with one of those!

I only have four, but only one of them is moderately active, the others have never logged in since they joined. It seems from a previous posting that I read that this is quite a good ratio of active / inactive, but I don't bother to try to recruit now, it does not seem to be worth the effort.
