Anybody have a dog with arthritis?

I think that our dog Max has arthritis. He is 10 years old, and lately he has been walking really slowly. He barely picks up his back legs when he walks and he does not want to go outside hardly at all anymore. Do you have a dog with arthritis? Did you take them to the vet to get any medicine? Is there anything the vet can give him or anything I can buy at the store that would help him?

I used to have a black lab/retriever mix and when he was older, he got really bad arthritis. We gave him joint medicine every day to help ease his joints a little bit. I think you can buy those at the store. It's the onset of old age. This is sad, but he was in so much pain a few years after it started. He couldn't get up with out it being some sort of trouble, whining, falling over.. My parent's decided to put him to sleep. That was maybe 5 years later though. If buying the medicine at the store doesn't help, take him to the vet.

Do they have special stuff for dogs, or did they just give him the human stuff?

As far as I know they were for dogs with joint problems and we bought them at our local pet store. We gave him two a day, and they were basically dog treats that helped joint pain. Hope this helps!
