| 2. sherrylwatts (255) | 7 months ago |  At 12 years old, she has probably only recently discovered boys and it is not unusual for kids her age to be "going steady" - which basically means they see the other person at school, the mall or parties, talking on the phone, passing notes, etc. At 12 - 13 I would be okay with group activities (large groups of both girls and boys) as long as there is an adult present, at 14 double dates and at 15 dates with curfew (and of course I'd have to meet them and approve).
Best of luck with one of the most trying times you'll ever go through!!!

There definitely needs to be more supervision early on in the process to make sure good values and practices are instilled on your child. After they have gotten older, have matured (hard word to use for such a young age..heh) more and have learned more then you can start to step back and let them go a bit.
When you feel you can trust her (and her significant other has passed the gauntlet of challenges you have placed before them) then you can start to allow full dates with of course the curfew sherryl mentioned above. | |

3.  ladym33 (1735) | 7 months ago |  I started having boyfriends at 12 and frankly it was too young. These days I believe things are worse. I think it is OK to talk on the phone with a boy at this age, but not much else, unless it is a group activity. I would say at least 14 but I hope mine kids don't want to date till they are at least 15 or 16.
