Have you ever noticed how when your shopping you phone always rings just when you are at the checkout paying for your things??
Working as a cashier I have noticed that people are often on their phone while Im serving them or their phone rings when they are at the checkout. Some of them dont answer their ohone until after they have completed their shopping but yet others will answer it and then I hate having to tell them how much their shopping is while their in the middle of the conversation!! normally I dont bother if they are already on the phone, I mean how rude is that!?

I have to laugh at this discussion but only because it's true!!
I swear every time at the checkout counter, putting all my groceries up on the counter my cell phone rings. I usually just pick up and say "I'll call you back" and hang up.
I would imagine that the cashiers get annoyed. You're serving someone and they are paying you no attention. It is rude.
I see a lot of signs at counters at stores or fast food joints that say "No cell phone use at counters".
It's just common courtesy not to talk on the phone when someone who is doing their job and serving you.
Make sure you always say "Thank you" and give a smile to these people too, they are human, and it most likely gives their mood a little boost.
A little kindness goes a long way!
