Why do some people dislike country music? |
| |
| I like country music. Not all of it, but some of it. I mean, some of it is just beautiful. Take songs like Jeff Carson's "Not on Your Love", Lonestar's "Amazed" and John Michael Montgomery's "I Swear"- those songs give a person goosebumps! What about you? Do you like country? | | | | | |

| | it depends if i like the lyrics of the song. some people dislike country music maybe because it is not their type of music as it bores them if they listen to it | | | | | | |

| | Some country songs have goofy lyrics. I tend to forget about that if the melody is amazing, though. | | | |

| | I myself love country music. To me it's the easiest genre to be able to relate to. I was raised on country music, and enjoy the old artists as well as the new and upcoming artist. I like all genres of music except classical and opera, but can relate more, and favorite being Country! | | | | | | |

| | A lot of people I grew up with don't like country music. I'm from a really ghetto town so most people listened to either rap and hip hop or punk and hard rock. There are a lot of gothic people there too. I like country music more than I did. I think that has something to do with my boyfriend though. He listens to a lot of country and that's what he plays while we're in the car. So I got to listen to a lot of songs I haven't heard before and that I now like. The song Don't Take The Girl by Tim McGraw just about makes me cry. So does Jesus Take The Wheel by Carrie Underwood. | | | | | | |

| | I think a lot of it depends on what you grew up on. I have seen many people learn to like it (such as my dad and one of my good friends) but they have a much more open mind than most. I think so many people just pigeonhole themselves, and don't take a good listen to the music and just go by the label. If the what the genre is called evokes a certain feeling or brings a certain stigma to mind, they just won't have anything to do with it. I have a friend who hates country music. She would never admit it, but I can guarantee you it's not the music that she hates, it's the "country" label. The reason I know this is because she'll say "I like this song... wait, is it country?" If I tell her it is, she'll decide right on the spot that she doesn't like it (after liking it literally a split-second ago) and ask me to play something else. Meanwhile, I am thinking, "If you like it, what does it matter what it's called? Isn't liking the sound of it more important?" People don't realize that even if music is labeled a certain thing, that doesn't mean it all sounds the same or presents the same qualities. Genres of music can be extremely diverse even if they're all called the same thing. Some of those folk-rock artists could pass for country a lot more so than some of the "country" artists of today in my opinion. When I was growing up, I would ONLY listen to country (and an occasional classical piece) until I one of my dance teachers introduced me to her incredible collection of music from all over the world. Pretty soon I was able to say I never met a genre of music which I didn't like. I have a friend who is a musician who had a similar experience when she went to Ireland - she was struck how they just went for the music and didn't seem so worried about what it was labeled or how it was perceived. So I think it is a combination of culture, upbringing, and how willing one is to look beyond what meets the eye rather than decide their opinion on it before they hear it just because of the label. | | | | | | |

| | I've seen clips of Conway Twitty on Family Guy and Youtube. He seems pretty good. Garth Brooks has some good songs, also. I must admit, I don't know any songs by Reba, though. | | | |

| | The songs you listed are amazing....but for me too much of it's depressing and when I listen to music I want to have something that is uplifting...no all about drunks...affairs etc...I have begun listening to it a little more lately but quit for many years..... | | | | | | |

| | I think that some people dislike it because of the message. Either they dislike it because they feel most of the songs are to sad, or they dislike it because they feel most of the songs are just sappy. I think that it also depends on what the person's age group is listening to. | | | | | | |

| | I like Country music, but not as much as I used to. I didn't realise it at first but country music is usually soooo depressing. It's always about cheating, drinking, & broken hearts. Maybe if they started coming out with some more up lifting country music there would be more fans. | | | | | | |

| | Why do some people dislike rock, or R&B, or techno... I guess we all have different tastes and different likes and dislikes... We need to be different, since we are unique individuals !! :) | | | | | | |
