Why do some parents think it's ok to allow alcohol at a 17 year old's party?

I feel angry this morning! You may or may not have read the discussion about the 2 girls in my town that died in a car accident last night. Well do you think when you allow your 16-17 year olds to go to a party given by a friend's parents that they are in danger? Do you realize how many parent allow and in some instances provide alcohol at parties they throw for their teens? If you have young people in your life ask questions before you let them out the door! These parents need to be held responsible for the deaths for 2 very promising young ladies! Thanks for listening! xoxoxoxoxoxo

what a sad story, if my daughter will go to the party with drink no way, i need to protect not only for this day but till she can handle the right time & finish her study, we are the parent who give them not just in a word but we need too.

I don't blame you for being angry. That an adult would encourage and allow a teenager to drink at their party is just shocking to me. Teenagers don't know how to deal with the effects of drinking. There is a reason the drinking age is 21.

That is so sad. It looks like they would have made sure that they had not been drinking before they had left their house. I agree they are responsible espically if they had served drinks.

Because teenagers are going to drink whether thy have permission or not so if it's done in a controlled environment where the parents can control everything it's probably gonna end up being a safer experience. Example: if someone drinks too much goon and passes out and vomits, a parent can pick them up and call their parents to come collect them. If a kid drinks too much goon and passes out at a party where there is no parental supervision, they could possibly vomit and choke on it and die in a bathtub like Jim Morrison.

I started drinking when i was about 15/16 and to be honist i think that its down to the individual, a parent can preach and preach about not drinking but if the kid wants to they will do it. So i think that aslong as its supervised, ie. the parents know who much alchole is at the party then its fine.

i really get disappointed when i hear parents on the news comment that it's okay for teens to drink and it was just a mistake and we should all learn from it. but is anybody learning? i don't think so! many teenagers are getting drunk and driving and getting into accidents. i really think that it's sad. it really is.

i can't agree more than you... parents should be more careful when they have teenagers and allow them to go to party... drink driving had been a source of many car accidents in youth even in where i live... it is so sad when we hear something like this happen which can actually be prevented...

We had that happen here in minnesota awhile back and now some counties here have laws that if its your house you will be responsible. I think its about time we hold the people throwing these kind of parties responsible too.

Yes parents that let their children go to parties where they have no idea whose house it is and who let their underage children drink, and the one providing it to them should all be locked up. We recently had 2 young girls here die, they sped away from a house at 2 am and couldn't make the curve. I think parents are letting them drive too early also in life, a auto is a big responsiblity, and it seem the parents now adays don't care where or what their child is doing as long as they are out of their hair. I understand we want then to be grown up and do things they like to do, but we have put to much on our children to handle at such a young age.

I think parents that allow their teens to drink are absolutely ridiculous. Being a teenager, I know that people my age are only going to drink to get drunk.

I agree. It's dumb but alot of parents these days have the mentality that the kids are going to do it anyways so they would rather have them doing at home were they can watch whats happening and know that nothings being slipped into there drink. In most states those parents would be held accountable for this situation..were they not in this one?
