Organic coffee...better...?

I recently wondered what made regular coffee NON-organic. So, I did a little bit of searching (which I got paid for, btw, check out my profile) and discovered that organic coffees are grown free of pesticides, chemicals and artificial treatments. These things are never used in any step of the growing and harvesting process. Interesting.
The reason I started looking into is was this: I used to get daily headaches- but last fall, I made two significant changes. One was my diet- switching to more whole, natural foods. The second was switching to organic coffee. My headaches were gone almost abruptly. I didn't really consider the reason- I just figured it was the better diet in general and didn't think too much about it. Well, about a month ago, I started drinking non-organic coffee again (long story not relevant) and, while I have been eating a little more processed foods, the coffee was the big difference. And, suddenly those headaches returned...about a week after drinking the coffee. And it was a distinct feeling, very specific- the same type of headache I used to get. I tried several brands of non-organic coffee and have now returned to organic. Guess what?!? NO HEADACHE with organic coffee. SO, for me anyway, organic is definitely better, at least when it comes to coffee (I found it really does taste better, too). There must be a certain chemical used on non-organic coffee that I am super sensitive to...?What about you? Do you eat anything organic? Some? None- you don't care, don't agree it's better, or simply can't work the extra cost into the budget? If you do eat organic, do you notice a difference in your health in any way?

I LOVE organic everything. Produce especially. It just tastes so much better. I find the produce stays fresh for a lot longer as well.

I think it all does taste better- but I certainly noticed it in the coffee, and wasn't really expecting to. My mom got a head of lettuce with the root ball still attached- that was very pricey, but it lasted a LONG time!! Thanks for responding.

You got me there too in ORGANIC. I love organic foods too but the price is very discouraging. That's what I can't understand with organic planting, they don't use fertilizers, pesticides and all sorts of other chemicals which mean no extra production cost and yet their produce are more expensive.

Anyway maybe I should try that organic coffee too, and good for you it work wonders...did you say it taste better?

It's my understanding that the process for getting the product "certified" organic is costly and that is the reason for the higher cost. But, I have noticed at Walmart (haven't looked anywhere else but I'm sure it's everywhere) that there is more and more organic available. Libby's brand, for example has a variety of organic canned veggies. I even noticed Kraft ORGANIC macaroni and cheese- and odd combo if you ask me (organic but processed...lol) but makes the point perfectly... wink Anyway, the canned veggies at Walmart were .88 and that might be a bit more than the store brand stuff but I don't think it is really that much more than the non-organic brand name beans. Last I heard, Walmart was committed to keeping the organic stuff priced within 15% of non-organic varieties.

I definitely noticed the coffee tasted better and didn't have the unpleasant aftertaste I had with the other stuff.

I buy organic as much as I can, because, like you, I feel better when I use it. (I don't drink coffee, though.) The scary part is that they don't know what those chemicals are doing to us, or they won't admit it if they do know.

I think that the closer we can get to natural foods the better of we are.

You know how I feel about chemicals and such so yes, I'd love to go totally organic, but it's cost-prohibitive for the most part.

I try to lightly wash all produce before cooking and I'm hoping to get a few vegetables to grow in my small space and I will be doing everything completely green there, but there's not a lot more I can do (except keep posting at myLot since this is to help my grocery bill!)

I drink Horizon Organic Fat Free Milk. It tastes so much better than regular milk. You've peeked my interest with the coffee, can you tell me the brand of coffee? Where can I find it? Online/store/wal-mart? I get Migraines, and if drinking organic coffee will help me out, then I would LOVE it!

I don't get Migraines as much as I use to, I use Fever Few herbal supplement, and that helps a lot, but I love coffee and drink it everyday, lately I haven't been drinking any. Getting TOO HOT in this trailer, after we move, I will be back to drinking it though, central Air.
