What are you guys doing to celebrate earth day? Today I opened my center early (since it is also PA primary, there is no school today). It is georgeous outside and I had the kids earn a chance to make crafts and have a snack by picking up trash in the park behind us. I gave them each a small trash bag and a plastic glove. They all did great. Each one came back with a full bag. After they were done with that I had them paint small terra cotta flower pots and when they were dry to the touch, they filled them with dirt and planted some flower seeds. The next craft they did was make a wooden bird house. A huge amount was donated by a near by day camp and we put them together with hot glue and decorated them with stickers.
For snacks I just tried to use up what I had extra and at home. They each got a juice box and either a small bag of chips or a smore snack bag (2 marshmallows, a mini hershey bar and two graham crackers).
Right now the kids are playing games on the computers.
It's been a great day so far.
What is everyone else up to?

We went shopping and bought a reusable bag for our groceries. It was $1 but every time we bring it back they will credit us 5 cents on our bill. I guess in 20 more shopping trips not only will I be saving the environment but I will be saving money too!
