wondering whether someone here has some recipes for crackers made without wheat flour, and that includes whole wheat. I am interested in some that include olive oil, or butter as the binding ingredient, also in multi grain. I know how to make oat crisps, but I was also wondering whether they could also be made with oil instead of margarine. I would rather make them then buy from the store as I am on a strict budget and my husband thinks that rye crisps are a snack and not a substitute for bread, so he will not pay for them.

suspenseful, You can make your own brown rice flour. I found this when I was looking for some for myself. Soak rice in water for 2-3 hours, keep a little bit of water, and drain away the excess, put the rice and water in a blender, blend for a while,(or stone grind it), pour the ground rice inside a cloth bag, put the bag in a sieve or on something with holes so that the water can be drained away, put something heavy on top of the bag to help draining out the water for a few hours. What is left inside the bag is rice flour, if you are not using it immediately, you will need to dry it before keeping. Fromhttp://www.astray.com/recipes/?show=How%20to%20make%20rice%20flour

Thank you. I already put it in my recipe folder. I do have some brown rice and I will try it out. I will have to see if I have a cloth bag. I suppose one of my shopping bags will not do, I suppose.

It would be raw rice. Cooked rice will give you rice milk.

I put the recipe in my recipe folder. OH about that rice flour, it is uncooked rice, or is it cooked rice? I just do not want to make any mistakes. I know I can buy some at our local bulk barn, but I would like to make some just in case Also could one substitute potato or corn flour either?

I think you can substitute rice flour for wheat flour in most recipes.
