I know shark attacks are relatively uncommon here in the United States. But today a person was killed by one in San Diego and it just reinforces the creepiness of the ocean. I used to love the ocean but as I got older I began to wonder just what was under those hundreds of feet and sometimes miles of water, things I couldn't see until they touched me, or ate me! These days, when I get near an ocean, I'm content with collecting shells or sitting in the shallows or wading just a little bit out. Does the ocean creep you out? It does me!

Nope..whenever you are in the ocean, a shark is never more than 6 feet from you, actually. (I live in Florida.) But they are fish eaters and the only time they bite a person is when they can't see well in murky water and mistake you for a fish. Wait and swim on clear water days and don't be afraid. Remember..the man killed in the great white shark atack..it had not happened there simce 1959! It's very rare. It happens here in Florida once in a while, usually again in murky water..or when it's geting dark or at the mouth of a river going into the ocean where there are more schools of fish for them to eat. Just pay attention ot when you swim, the clearness og the water..and don't swim near a place where a river goes into the ocean and you'll be just fine! The oceans are fun! Enjoy!

Thanks for the information, I wasn't aware of all those facts! I know shark attacks are rare but didn't know why they would want to attack a human. I think they're beautiful, though.
