Why my Movie Maker don't want to import my*.avi videos??? help!!

I have the Movie Maker 5.1 for the Windows XP. I'm trying to upload some .avi videos so I can make my own movie but a strange message comes out telling me that the CODEC required to play the video is not installed in my computer. I tried to download it from the internet but still is not working.
Please can somebody help me telling me what can I do to fiz this??

I thing upgrading your movie to the latest vesrsion. Try fixing you video cam corre

You will need to download the codec for the file format before you can convert it. The problem is that the file will be a derivative of mpeg4, of which there are a vast number of variations. This makes it difficult at times to decide which codec is the correct one.
I would suggest either playing it in Windows Media Player, which should prompt you to download the codec, or install a codec pack which should encompass most formats.

Maybe your AVI is a DivX AVI or a XviD AVI, you cannot tell which is which actually here, and since MM refuses already. Better download the required codec. I would suggest Free Combine Community Codec Pack, this incude codec for MKV and it has Zoom amd Classic Multimedia player.
