Is my Dog Greedy, Stupid, or Both? |
| |
| My youngest enjoys playing with pots and pans, pretending to cook. Our dogs enjoy him doing this, as occassionally he'll grab a pan that's not been washed up yet and they can sneak a quick lick of something tasty. Anyway, today little one was playing on the floor with a collection of pans and some wine corks, pouring the corks from one pan to another. In comes dog, back from her walk. Snap! There goes a cork out of the nearest pan, straight down the dog's throat. Stupid beast obviously thought it was some sort of tidbit left in the pan, but she scoffed it so quick that noone had a chance to grab her. I don't think it even touched the sides, just straight on down. Well she seems OK with it so far, but I guess at some point it's going to have to come out the other end. I'll be glad I'm not in her position when it does! Perhaps it will teach her not to be so greedy / stupid. DO you think so? I don't!! | | | | | |

| | I highly doubt she'll learn her lesson she's a dog, and all dogs are that way. she probably smelled the wine on the cork and it smelled sweet to her. and if you look at a cork the kinda look like the shape of a doggie treat. my dog does stupid stuff too. | | | | | | |

| | OMG! You better watch the dog because she can get an obstruction and need surgery if it gets stuck in there. I hope she doesn't get it stuck in the small intestine .. I've seen so many dogs get foreign body impactions (even from bones and other stuff), sometimes they pass them and sometimes they can't and need a vet to intervene. | | | | | | |

| | We're keeping an eye on her. No problems so far and she's a reasonably large dog so I'm hoping that it'll pass through unhindered. | | | |

| | The roomie's dog is like that too. She was grabbing tidbits out of the air and the roomie dropped a pickle. Well, that got in her mouth and it came out again like - ewww, that's not food. | | | | | | |

| | I reckon I could get my dogs to eat anything at all if I tossed it in the air & told them it was a chicken. Mutts! | | | |

| | The roomie's former roomie had a very stupid peke. the roomie had dropped jelly beans on the floor and the dog was going around eatting them. then she got the black one, licorice. She kept picking it up and spitting it out until she finally ate it. | | | |

| | Hasn't anyone ever explained the toilet paper tube test to you? Who in their right mind would leave wine corks within reach of children or pets. Animals as well as children are by nature curious and use the taste and smell method to explore. Something as small as a wine cork is a CHOKING HAZZARD. There is nothing wrong with children playing with pots and pans or pets licking the dirty ones. My kids like the pots and pans better than toys and my son turned out to be an excellent cook thank goodness since he married someone who had no clue how to boil water. And out house pets lick the dishes and pans all the time, they think it is their job and since there is no dishwasher in the house we look at it as the prewash cycle. But even rawhide chews are off their treat list because they are proven health hazards. Use common sense before you have a real tragedy on your hands! | | | | | | |

| | Obviously they haven't, so perhaps you'd care to? I assume it's along the lines of if something is small enough to fit through the centre of a toilet roll then it's Dangerous with a capital D? Much though I appreciate the warning, the dog has walked past wine corks a million times without snatching them, let alone swallowing them. Bearing in mind that this is a dog who'd swallow a rock if you tossed it in the air and called it a chicken, I can only assume that she thought she'd found her dinner. Daft animal. | | | |

| | LOL, I love your discussions; they are really amusing! Well dogs are a bit nuts, aren't they? My cat did something idiotic the other day. I guess he swallowed a piece of thread, quite a long one. I saw it hanging out of his other end, a quarter out and three quarters in. I had to put the darn thing out. Phew!! As for the dog, I could start ten thousand discussions about her. She knocked down my flower pots the other day. She has dug two deep holes in the garden--I don't know why. And she broke a plant that had just recovered from another shock. So I guess dogs are a bit nuts and tiresome, too!! Lets hope the cork comes out of the other end, soon! LOL :) Cheers and happy mylotting | | | | | | |

| | Oh no, this is just getting *too* graphic .... but I have to tell you that one of my Mum's cats had this thing for swallowing elastic bands. They used to hang out the other end just as you describe, but when you pulled on them they'd just ping back, wallop the cat on a rather sensitive spot and cause it to look at you with that cat look that has you quaking in your boots and checking your slippers before you put them on in the morning! | | | |
