I have committed myself to getting healthy and losing weight, starting today. Aside from getting some daily exercise, I have started keeping a food journal, where I logged in food that I have consumed and count the calories I have partaken. Writing the food down is easy, and actually helpful, because it makes me aware of how food I eat in a day. However, counting calories is a pain. I'm a member of Sparkpeople.com and I record my food consumption on their site. However, since their database is not as extensive, I used calorieking.com food database for nutrional information. I wonder how many of you guys here in mylot have experienced counting calories as part of a diet, and maybe you can share how you did it.

Yes, it can be difficult but I have a goal in mind. Reading labels for food that we eat is a good habit, even if you are not counting calories.

When I was dieting I was counting calories I would calculate how many calories I had for the day and I would also write down how many calories the machines at the gym said I had burned. I lost 40 pounds by doing that.

Thanks for that encouragement. I believe, that though tedious, being aware of how much I eat will help me in my weight loss program.

I count calories by using Sparkpeople.com - It not only tracks my calories, but all of my other nutrients, as well as my fitness. It's absolutely amazing, whether I'm trying to lose weight or maintain! It will even help you gain weight if you need to, or create special meal and workout plans for you.
