I didn't get/take the job... |
|
I recently applied for a the position of Program Director for a certain school... it would involve organizing outreach programs for students to help in the community... and to set up ties with companies that will potentially hire the graduates... I think i did good during the interview... and my background was perfect for the job... but when it came to the salary that i wanted... that paved way for the problem... seems like the school was not willing to give me the same or a slightly higher salary that i am currently making... And that was just a turn down for me because i really wanted the job... but if i take it for a lower salary... than that would mean more financial problem for my family... What would you have done?... would you have taken the job since the work was perfect but the salary low?... or decline it just like what i did...

1. drannhh (5229) | 6 months ago | It would depend on other things, such as perks that might come with the new job, whether the parking was better or there were more windows or other comfort features, opportunities for advancement, maybe how happy or unhappy I was with the present employer. If the new job had more permanence that would be worth giving up some money maybe. I prefer a better work environment, but we don't know for sure that would have been better once you got there, so maybe it turned out for the best. Good luck!

2. gxnfly (894) | 6 months ago | Sometimes we don't have a choice,we have to live,we need money to cover the exspenses. When I was at college,I didn't have to worry about the money,I would do anything to go after my dreams, get a dream job, even if it's with harder work and lower compensation. But now,I doubt,I might take a job with higher salary which I don't like just like you did.But if the job has potential great opportunity I might as well take it even if didn't pay well.

aseretdd (4125) | 6 months ago | Well, i cannot take any chances right now... with the current increase in the prices of commodities... even if the job has a good potential... something might still get wrong... or i might not meet their expectations... that is life... thanks for the response...

3. subha12 (12607) | 6 months ago | i think you have done the perfect thing. i would not have taken the job if it pays me same or very little as the current job. one basic point in changing the job is hike in pay, is not it? I think i also have done the same.

|
aseretdd (4125) | 6 months ago | I agree with you... an increase in pay is one objective why we change jobs... but if i don't have any responsibilities in life... i would have taken it... because of the opportunities and professional growth it can give me... but for now... money talks... thanks for the response...

4. wondericequeen (3547) | 6 months ago | I think I would have declined it like you did! Sometimes money really matters in job hunting. If the job sounds interesting, it's a good thing; but if I have to take a job for lower salary, I don't think I will make that change because it doesn't make sense to me and I would want to progress in life instead of going backward.

aseretdd (4125) | 6 months ago | But the job would have meant a return to the teaching environment for me... but i will not teach... well... money is quite an important thing right now... especially with the current increase of the prices of almost all commodities... thanks for the response...

6. checapricorn (7400) | 6 months ago | For me, If I have another option I will just decline it! It will be useless if I will work there whole day and my earning is still not enough for my family! I will just look for another work who can give be a better salary!I know with your qualifications, It will be easier for you to get hired!

aseretdd (4125) | 6 months ago | Good thing i have this option to stay in my current job... if i didn't... then i would have to take the job and accept whatever they will pay me... nowadays... even if one is qualified with a long list of achievements... it is still difficult to secure a good job... thanks for the response...

|
checapricorn (7400) | 6 months ago | I see..I was thinking you have no job at all. That's great! In some point of view, you are correct but here, it is very easy to find a secure job once you have all the skills and qualifications!Too many job offering but have to be competent to stay longer! Happy posting!

9. Pitgull (803) | 6 months ago | Your family needs financial security. But at the same time, if you would be better for a position, and have a passion and actually care to help the students involved, and may care more than someone else, then these students might be missing out on something. Your family should not be neglected, so if it's just an unreasonable amount with no agreement of it being adjusted or changed, then I would have to do the same.... But if it was because I believed I was worth more, but I could make it work, and my career would be more rewarding and I could genuinely help students (high school kids need real people that care and will help us) ....maybe I would talk it over with my family, and see where was best for us...and what would be most rewarding to me...
| |
| |
|
|
aseretdd (4125) | 6 months ago | I would love to help out students... but for now... i think my main priority is to take care of my family... and to think about my baby's well being... since i will not be able to buy all the things that she needs if i am to take a job that i like but pays less than what i am earning now... thanks for the response...

10. Madona1 (1236) | 6 months ago | Hello there, there are a couple of factors need to be taken into account. 1) In you post, you said your background was perfect for the job, but you didn’t give more details on how many years of experiences you have; why you thought you were perfect for the job. 2) You didn’t give reason why the school decided to give you low paid. 3) Did they suggest giving you a good pay rise after the probation? Anyway, I may consider taking this job if I were you. Because 1) I could spend more time with my child as there were summer/winter vacations. 2) It was a challenge as I liked this type of job. 3) I would give the school and myself a chance to know each other so that my pay might go up at the end.
