Alternative Endings In Movies~~~Do You Wish They Were The Ending?

As many know..when one gets a DVD copy of a movie some added additions and features may show the alternative ending of a movie rather than the theatrical version that is shown in movies. Now one alternative was when I hunted on of all things, YouTube. I still have many movies on VHS tapes so in other words the original movie shown in theatres and not the director's cut such as Lord of The Rings, which in my case I not only have the original VHS tape, but the DVD version of the theatre versions...but I later got the Director's Cut version of each Lord Of The Rings movies and the added scenes made a real impact and were so much better than the original theatre version.
I'm hoping to eventually get the DVD versions of a lot of the movies I have on VHS tapes...One of them I would love to have is ...all right..fling wet noodles at me..but I would love a DVD version of Titanic...yes that movie many consider simpy, dumb and a "chick" movie. Well the other night, I don't know why, I tuned into YouTube and typed in the movie Titanic and I came across an alternative version at the end of the movie.
It was the scene where in the theatre version the "old" Rose Dawson walks on the ship and decides to toss that huge blue diamond necklace into the sea....to return it to where it belong....then later you see the scene cut to Rose's sleeping cabin..and you see old photos of Rose...then cuts to the sunken Titanic but transforms into the way Titanic looked before it sunk..and you see a hand reach out (the young Rose) and grasps the hand of Jack...suggesting the idea that the old Rose had died and now was being joined with all those that died that night on the Titanic. The alternative version shows a bit more to the whole scene and I wish it HAD been in the original version. Here's the link to that alternative version
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3m9-8wqws74
So...do you ever wish that if you see the "alternative" version or cut scenes for a movie...wish they had been kept? Or if you see the "director's cut" version of a movie, wish the deleted scenes had been kept since it gave more understanding to the story?
Or is it just me...sometimes maybe directors yell cut, action, that's a take at the wrong time?

Sometimes the alternative endings are better than the theatrical releases and I do wish they had kept them in the movie, and I have come across the case several times when a deleted scene would have helped the movie make better sense. I wish there was an option on DVDs to insert the deleted scenes into the film.
And by the way, I am not ashamed to say that I love Titanic and I saw it 5 times on the theater. Its a fascinating love story based on a real event--one of my favorite parts is when they show clips of people when the band is playing its last song. Those people shown are mostly famous people and if you know about the Titanic you know who they are which makes it more real and sad for me. I saw the exhibit many many years ago with my mom when it was Memphis. I have always found the story sad yet fascinating.
Besides it is in the Titanic movie that one of my favorite bands got it start. The Gaelic music band, Gaelic Storm, is the steerage band.

Yes a lot of the money giants of the time were on board the Titanic..like Astor. Many DVDs now come out with the director's cut version of the movie so many of the deleted scenes are added and often makes the theatrical version pale in comparison. The Gaelic Storm...was that the band they had when Rose and Jack were dancing together??...loved that scene

I have had a good experience and a bad experience. The good experience was with the movie Jade.HBO aired the director's cut and it mad more sense than the released version. Another good movie was Once Upon A Time In America. In the Italian version , the story is fuller and makes more sense. But The one director's cut I have but I prefer the original is Basic Instinct. It is a little more graphic but the heart of the story is the same.

Have you ever seen the director's cut versions of the Lord Of The Rings...all those deleted scenes that were added made more sense to the storyline..of course it made each LOTR movie about four hours long..LOL

the directors make difficult choices, and cut out scenes that make the movie too long for theater viewing or big screen or whatever, and they are very serious well thought out decisions, by the world's greatest directors, they have to to decide how to get the point across yet still cut, and they do that with a lot of deliberation.
who would think titanic the award winning soon to be classic movie a chick flick, only somebody that would would think shakespeare had no talent just because they didn't like what he did.
I would love to get the uncut versions as well. It does add a completely different dimension to the movies because you get to see more.

I have just watched it, and just had all my children asking me why I am crying, that film does it too me everytime, no matter how many times I have seen it!! But I must admit it was a bit more interesting in those extra bits being put in.
I originally had this film on vhs, and then it was on tv one night and hubby watched a bit of it, next day he ordered it on dvd!! So it is not just a chick flick, but don't tell anyone or he will be embarrassed!!

As much as Titanic was/is a chick flick etc (something I'm not big on for the most part LOL) it really was a good movie....I'll have to check out the link you sent when my kids are gone to school and I have more coffee in me LOL..
As for other alternate endings..I dont always watch them when I buy or rent a DVD but I have a few times and sometimes I like the alternate and thing it would have been the better choice and sometimes I dont...Same wiht deleted scenes..sometimes I think they should have been left in and other times I think it was right to cut them...

To be honest, I used to hate the alternative versions. I used to want to keep it all "cut and dried" and just the way it was originally. But after buying the director's cut version of Pirates of the Carribean 2, I have definitely changed my mind. It just makes it so much more interesting to check out a different take on the endings of movies. I have to admit that sometimes when I check out the deleted scenes from some movies I get ticked off. It's like "Why didn't they put that in the final cut? It would have been perfect!" But I'm just a li'l ol' movie nut that speaks her mind. LOL!

For my part... I don't like the idea of alternative version.
Watching an alternative ending after having seen the movie... sort of spoil the movie for me.

What about "director's cut" versions of movies where a lot of deleted scenes are added? I prefer the director's cut version of all three Lord of the Rings as those versions made more sense then..of course with the additional scenes each movie was nearly four hours long....LOL

Yeah I wish movies with alternate endings would be added to the dvd like have two features one the regular version and a full movie with the alternate version. Like they did with I am legend I actually liked the alternate version better then the regular version I liked that he lived and didnt kill all the zombies and tried to show them he was trying to help them.

I don't like having the option to see an alternative ending. I'm happy with the one that was originally made. I feel there was a reason for the first one so I stick with it.

I don't really think it was so much an "alternative ending" but they cut those parts out...I guess a lot of director's do that to bring the timing of the movie to a shorter length

Hi pyewacket! I do agree with you. Most of the times the deleted scenes are the ones that could truly make the movie complete. I have seen several here in our local movies and I prefer those uncut versions. Just my thoughts dear. Take care and have a nice day!

Yes, there are times when I wish that certain scenes had not been cut because watching them helped me to understand why the movie played out the way it did. On the other hand, I can fully understand why other scenes didn't make it!
My husband and I always watch the special features on our dvds after watching the movie.
One movie that had a couple of different alternate endings was The Butterfly Effect. I remember liking one of them better than the actual ending.
I don't like the movie Titanic at all. I don't watch sad movies as a rule. I have a hard time with depression and anxiety as it is. I don't need anything else to make me sad! lol

Hmmm---well while Titanic was sad it didn't affect me with depression...right off the bat I can't think of any, but there are some movies that really are depressing,..oh, got one! I did watch it..it IS a good movie but depressing as heck...The Hours...an interwoven story with the author Virginia Woolf as part of it...she suffered from bi-polar problem--that movie depressed me for weeks after watching it...LOL

I have the DVD of Titanic, it is one of my favorite movies. This movie was actually one of the more tasteful versions as well as being closer to what actually happened. It raises a lot of questions as to how things were done, but of course they can't be changed now.
It would be nice to think that at least one of the survivors has made peace with the events of the terrible night. God rest their souls and may they forever be free.
