Viv Richards was good but from an England point of view Ian Botham has to be the best or at least most entertaining although he probably didn't hit his best form until 1980 or 81

Adadrian (53)   ranked 484 out of 1,696 in cricket  2 years ago

well seeing as though this is a cricket in the 70's i really dont think ian botham should be counted in this:P

i should make a cricket in the 80's one yeah i might do that in the future

I can only remember one thing about 70s Cricket..... West Indian Domination. SO I wont say I have one favorite player from that era but rather the whole of West Indian team. Clive Lloyd, Alwyn Kalicharan, Rohan Kanhai, Gordon Greenidge The Great Sir Garfield Sobers, Joel Garner, Micheal Holding, Walcott, Marshall... so many greats in one team. No wonder they were the unbeatable in that era. Even Aussies and Brits were at sea when facing the pace attack that West Indies boasted of. The strong batting line up was a cause for sleepless nights for so many bowlers around the world. they were the invincible.

alas!! the current state of affairs in the West Indian Cricket is a sad story. lets hope we see another era of West Indian domination soon.

Unfortunately I think other sports have now overtaken the dominance of cricket in the islands and there will be a loss of talent to football and other sports. Can't see a recovery coming any time soon, this though doesn't mean that they wont win the odd series here and there

even though im australian and love the australian and england teams

i really do like the west indian team and would have to say they could quite well be my fav team. they have had so many great players and atm it is at a very low point and brian lara leaving has really really put them low. i do hope something great happens with only chanderpaul to help them recover but they need to do something quick.

but yeah i will always support the west indies

the favorite player that played in the 70s is sunil gavaskar he was the awesome player of thet time
i am the the great fan of the gavaskar
his record his method of playing
and his methodlogy was awesome

Adadrian (53)   ranked 484 out of 1,696 in cricket  2 years ago

i have to admit that sunil gavasker was one of the best openers i have seen in my life. even though i prefer to watch other openers such as boycott, gooch, desmond haynes, gorden grendige, mark taylor and mike atherton. thats what i'd prefer to "watch play" but sunil gavaskar was probably the best opener or one of the best openers there was/is

70's era will always be remembered for Westindies domination, begining of ODI cricket, Kerry packer's cirus and Ofcourse gentleman's game
This era produced the legends fo the game that are always remembered. Some of the few legends i do remember now are:
Sir Viv Richards
Sir Garry Sobers
Sir Ian Botham
Imran Khan
Clive Lloyd
Gregg Chappel
Ian Chappel
Dennis Lilee
Javed Miandad
Richard Hadlee
Sunil Gavaskar
Geoff Boycott and the list goes on

To select one player from the following will be the toughest job ever since all were great in their own ways.

I will place 3 players on top and thwese will be
1. Sir Viv Richards
2. Sir Garry Sobers
3. Imran Khan

Sir Viv Richards, the agressive hostile batsmen, who literally hated to run. He scored boundaries. He dominated the bowlers all over the world. Even the tough cricket has become faster, but still eh holds the record for the fastest ever century in tests. His famous innings of 181 in ODI's is still termed as the bestever ODI innings and was the highest score in ODIs for quite long time.

Sir Garry Sobers, a master all rounder, he was equally great with both bat abd bowl. Hwe could ahve played in any team eith as a bowler or as a batsmen. he could bowl medium pacers as well as slow china man. He used to have the record for highest test score of 365, which was later broken by his own countryman, Brian Charles Lara

Imran Khan, a great all rounder and an aggressive intelligent captain. He changed the afte of Pakistani cricket. He used to be the spearhead of the bowling attack and learnt the art iof reverse swing which was later passed on to Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis and other bowlers. In the latter stage of his career, he played more as a batsman in the team. He was a great captain. Straigtforward, aggressive and always thinking of winning. he termed leg spinners as wicket takers and introduced them in ODIs. In his captaincy, he won the WORLD CUP 1992 inspite of having a weak squad and a poor start tournament. He termed the pakistani players tigers.
