Fresh, tart cherries!

Our little cherry tree has a couple of dozen cherries (still green) this year! The kids and I got it a couple of years ago as a Mother's Day gift for my wife. But I have a dilemma. How do I keep the birds away from the cherries? Is there some kind of netting that would be light-weight enough (the tree isn't even 6 feet tall), yet sturdy enough to not get blown away (we've had a windy Spring - a "normal" day has been 15-20 mph winds)?

I read somewhere that you should have 3 cherry trees planted together... two for pollination and one for the birds. And that to further increase your chance of getting any cherries you should plant them up by the house where the cats can keep them patrolled. Good Luck and may the force be with you. Hehehe.
