Now the warmer weather is around there are also a lot of flies appearing and I just wondered how many of you guys use sprays, fly paper or bug zapper to get rid of them. I love animals and don't feel I am ever cruel but flies carry disease and I really don't want them around me so I have a tennis type bat which electrocutes them. Am I being cruel or do agree flies are ok to get rid of? Ellie :D

Hi Ellie-I do agree with you flies are full of germs and I hate to think what they do when they land on a surface, so I definitley don't see that you are wrong in giving them a 'zap' with whatever you get your hands on-I do or just tell them to get out and sometimes they do..haha..your friend littleowl

Zap 'em Ellie. I have no time for flies (or wasps) and I view them as fair game. Last autumn our builder told me that there was a funny smell in our garage. I found a bin bag that had somehow been forgotten. It contained a chicken carcass that was crawling with maggots just bursting to be nasty flying things. I use a newspaper, very low tech, but I get enormous satisfaction from belting the blighters.

Well I look at the bug zapper as good exercise, it is shaped like a tennis racket and it has me running around after them zapping the things with my son laughing hysterically at my antics! Yuk that missed bag not nice at all eh! The only thing maggots are good for is to go fishing with. Ellie :D

Hi Winterose, it was a novelty gadget really as fly spray is what really does them in but it is in the shape of a tennis racket and you have a button that you press and you bat them with it, it electrocutes them immediately. It is quite good fun too and exercise as you try and get the pesty flies and my son laughs at me when I get annoyed when I miss. I know that you are disabled so maybe the traditional fly paper or spray would be better for you to use but then you could always get the ones that get too near! Ellie :D

I use a fly spray, I do not like those electric things that fry them, I think its horrible, just the noise!! Although technically I am thinking that they are probably kinder and quicker than spray!! I am also going to invest in some wasp spray, have you seen how many wasps are about already? And they are HUGE. I had some in the garden the other day and I could not believe the size of them!!

I agree that in the spring and summer; warm weather, there are lots of insects out there. Whenever it comes to bugs and insects, I would definitely use a specialized bug zapper; like a tennis racket to ward them all off. Or you can have a big zapper to hang up on a tree branch or whatever. That is a great item to have. Especially mosquitoes that are annoying will get zapped. Even the best is to wear OFF lotion on your skin to prevent bugs from entering your skin. That way, it is a lot better summertime. Especially during camp and hiking times. What do you think?
