I watched the re runs. I'd have to say Grandma was my favorite. She could throw a look that kept Grandpa and others in line. It always made me giggle. Here came the look..Everyone stopped in their tracks. It was powerful.

Yes, Grandma was definitely a strong but quiet matron of the family - much like a lot of women of those days. She might not have said much, but when she spoke, everyone listened!

I think that was why the show was so popular - no matter what your age, there was someone in the family you could connect with.

Grandpa was my favorite too. I've seen interviews and read articles about him and they all say when he was playing the part of grandpa, he wasn't even acting. They say that what you saw on the screen was pretty much the way he was when he wasn't 'acting'
I would have loved to have had him as a grandfather.

I think Johns wife was really a good role model. She was strong, caring yet forgiving and had so much devotion for here family. She showed respect and was respected by everyone that knew her because she had high values. I think the whole family though lovable was not perfect not like fake perfect family shows of that occurred later. Every member of the family had faults and had to work through them. Alluvia or "live" as John called her had some too.
