The 18-year-old Chester High School senior suspected of killing his ex-girlfriend and her boyfriend Saturday used a knife to commit the double homicide, authorities said Tuesday. According to a criminal complaint signed by Plumas County District Attorney Jeff Cunan, Reyes Garcia Carrillo used the knife to kill Jennifer Carmen Carrigan and Steven Daniel Furtado, who were both 18. The young couple was found dead Sunday by Carrigan's mother inside the family's Chester home, authorities said. Furtado had traveled to Chester from his home in Willows to take Carrigan to her prom. The complaint also states that Carrillo entered the home "with the intent to commit larceny." It does not say what he intended to take, but the complaint charges him with burglary. Carrillo was scheduled to be arraigned at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Plumas Superior Court. Earlier Tuesday, Carrigan's 20-year-old brother died in the Enloe Medical Center in Chico. Billy Victor Carrigan crashed his pickup truck Sunday while racing to be with his family after his sister and her boyfriend were found dead. Carrigan crashed his truck on Highway 36 while on his way home to Chester, seven hours after his mother found his sister and her boyfriend dead in the family's home.
