Til Death Do Us Part?  | |  What would you do if you wanted a divorce but the states denied your request?In New York, Mississippi, and Tennessee it is real hard to get a divorce, I just read the Yahoo news article.There are only four resasons for divorce in these states,cruelty and inhuman treatment, adultery,abandonment for one year,or 3 years in prison.I know these laws were set to try to keep the family together for the children but if one or both parents aren't happy and they fight all the time or even worse they don't speak at all, how can that be good for the children?
I know if I were in a marriage that I wanted to end but the state wouldn't help I would either just disappear.We would still be married on paper but I wouldn't be anywhere he could find me.Or I would be forces t do something unlawful and very premeditated.what is your view of the state making it difficult to divorce?

| | 2.  jillhill (5479) | 3 months ago |  I don't know what the laws are now..but when I got a divorce we had to go through marriage couseling before they would grant our divorce...If I lived in one of those states...and wanted a divorce...I would move! I don't think that the state has the right to decide what is right in a marriage. That is between the two people involved.

Now, if something were to happen, and I felt that I needed to get out of that marriage, and it was not an option in the state I was in at the time, I would go to another state or province.

| | | 4. OreoCookie3 (12330) | 3 months ago |  I was divorced in NY, was raised there, and never had a problem.. had 2 divorces actually.. I think they are just no-fault divorces. If it was difficult to get one, I couldn't have afforded it, because I wasn't rich. All the one being divorced has to do is sign the papers and send them back.. they don't even have to show up in court... neither of mine showed up to fight it.
