i work with a girl who always wears flip flops (she is about 24 and our office is pretty causual - no jeans, but any type of other pants are ok)
anyways, she wears her flip flops and is now riding her bike to work...in her flip flop! i remember when my kids where little and used to run...their shoes always kept falling off their feet!

Wearing flip flops in a casual dress office,ok,maybe, but riding a BIKE?! sounds like an accident waiting to happen....I don't think She should be around traffic wearing those things!

There is much risk riding a bike with flip-flops. It might cause a slip on the pedals and the bike will be out of control, which potential lead to accident on the road. Did you let her know flip-flops are not meant for riding a bike? It's only for in door or at the beach
Thanks for starting this discussion. I didn't know that kind of slipper is called flip-flops. We called it 'Japanese Slippers' here.

Hello there, since most of the shoe soles of the flip flops are made of soft rubbers, they are quite easy to slip on any types of the floor/grounds. So I won’t suggest wearing the flip flops to work although there is no restriction on the outfit. Obviously this is up to individual to take the safety into the account.

Well I have been wearing flip-flops for as long as I can remember. I have never had a problem with them. But I have heard of people having accidents because of them.So i suppose anything can happen. When I worked we could never wear them to work.

it all depends. if you're not used to wearing them, like you wear them only occasionally in summer, i can see how it can be dangerous as others have mentioned. however, in warm places like hawaii and other tropical countries, flip flops are the staple footwear. most people wear them everyday, doing most things including riding a bike, running, etc. and they don't get into any accident.
i love flip flops and wear them most of the time, and i've never had any accident. the only time i don't wear them is when i'm driving 'cos i prefer to drive barefoot :)

First, I can't believe anyone can get away with wearing flip flops to work. Especially if jeans are not allowed, that means it is not a super-casual workplace. But anyway....I plan on getting a bike soon, and I do love my flip-flops in the summer, so I might be tempted to try this. But it really does strike me as a bad idea. Personally, I'm a bit clumsy, so I could see myself losing a fli-flop along the way. lol
