I looked at YMCA memberships today, what a shock!  |

|  I can join a health club for a bit less than they charge! I can't exercise much because of my back and one of my friends here suggested swimming, so I located our local Y and looked at memberships. $436.70 per year!! No way can I afford that!
I have no idea what else I can do. I can't walk more than half a block without my back killing me-I have bad discs, arthritis and scoliosis-and I haven't been able to find a stationary bike that I can haul in by myself.
Any suggestions on exercise for someone with a painful, useless back?

| |  I saw a very interesting interview of a fitness instructor and he was saying a lot of the trouble people have these days is they just don't do simple movement of the discs and joints in the body. he said the discs and joints need simple movement to his words were to oil these parts or they lock up, so he showed the exercisers and they were just very simple movements just for a few minutes going from top to toe hrdly moving at all...

i hate places that change so much for a membership.
I guess you don't have any free pools around?
maybe you could buy one of those big pools that you don't have to get built in.. they are cheaper then $436.
i think you can find them as low as $100+ something.
and there is yoga. I'm not sure how good that is for weight loss but it'll help tone you and they have certain exercises in yoga to help relieve back pain.

| |  I checked into the YMCA and was shocked also. Many years when I was single I would go to the YMCA, but not anymore just to costly. You might try the yellow pages to see, if there are any other swimming pools in the area.
The only other suggestion is what about high schools in your area? Many of them offer swimming during the summer and in the morning they have a lap swim at pools in my area.

| |  Here at my job, they use to offer every employee and their immediate family a free membership to the YMCA. We use to go ALL the time, especially just to swim with the kids.
But they quit offering that to us last year. Bummer! I really miss going there but Im not about to pay their yearly membership fee.
