How about that Mad Half Hour at Bedtime then?

Here's a question for any parents of child carers out there.
A few days I blithley wrote in a discussion here that I had no problem getting my kids off to bed. Famous last words! My youngest has since developed this mad half hour thing at bedtime. Our routine was always that he looked tired, so we'd get him ready for bed then he'd have kisses, some milk, look at books and fall asleep on my lap. Pah!
Now, it works just the same .... right up until his eyes close. Then they spring open again and he gets this sudden burst of manic energy. He bounces around the bed, he throws things, he virtually turns cartwheels. The last few evenings we've had to virtually hold him down and show him kiddie tele until he finally went to sleep.
Last night it was nearly midnight!
So, what can I do folks? How can I nip this nasty new trend in the bud before it becomes a habit? I NEED my sleep!!

Well...so far I haven't had to deal with anything like that yet. However, I think your best bet really is to put your foot down. It will be hard because he has had a lot of control with his bedtime routines, but you could say that you do the routine, but after looking through one book you are done. Then tell him he can stay awake as long as he stays in his bed with the lights off. It might take awhile for him to realize that you are serious, but if you are having a hard time with it then it is best for all involved. I do wish you luck!

Oh Moo...im out of touch now,but i really feel for you,tis hell going through an evening when all you want to do is relax, and theres this bundle of hyperactivity
running around like a maniac!..I suppose the only thing to do is to put the foot down with a firm hand, bite the bullet, and be firm..mind you ,you will probably say that you have tried that and it doesnt work either!!!..I wish you luck Moo..
