What a tragedy? The family is only the reason for getting married? She was just forced because they owe a lot to the man and the only thing they could pay the price is to let their daughter marry the man. The man also likes the idea anyway, the girl is beautiful and nice.
If I am the girl, I won't. I would try to find means to pay the debts. Well, If i like the man, I might but what if I don't?
If you are in this case, what will you do?

My family's debt is not mine so I wouldn't feel obligated to marry someone they owed money to. Then again, I'm an American and arranged marriages are foreign to me and something I don't agree with.

hahaha!! you are right!! Americans have a different way of getting married. This style is common to other countries.
Well, got your opinion. You don;t want to be involved with your parents debts. What if you are also involced in spending the money they owed?

Ok, I'll try to think like a non-American. I guess if I was actively involved in spending the money then I might feel some obligation to marry the man but I'd have to get a good look at him first and, if he's mean, forget it.

I never imagined that these old fashioned things still exists. Imagine being the payment for a debt. Isnt it degrading for a woman? I wouldnt want to be in this situation. But i dont think i will be because my family wouldnt do something like that to me. I know that they will do everything in their power to pay the debt without letting their daughter be the payment for it.

Nothing is worth "giving away" another human being in marriage. What kind of a family would pay their debts with their daughter's life? That's absolutely tragic. If I were in that situation, I would not do it.
