I'm wondering about dishes |
| |
| I'm wondering about dishes and cutlery. I wonder how important it is to you...do you use special dishes or serving pieces passed down in your family? Did you get some at yard sales or thrift shops? Did you take a lot of time before marraige - if married - to choose patterns and types? Did you get a set or two as presents? Do you have a set for family and one for company/holidays? What do you have and how important are things like that to you? | | | | | |

| | Well I only have a few pieces of my great-grandmother's old chinaware, but ironically not plates themselves, just a large serving platter, gravy boat, and one soup dish..LOL. My mother had a real bad habit of breaking things, uh, especially when she had one of her temper flare ups..yikes.. I did buy a set of nice chinaware some years ago, and reserve those for holidays only...otherwise just use regular plates I got years ago. As for cutlery, same thing...used to have the old real silverware, but over the years thing disappeared...my mother had a wacky habit of throwing things out by accident..don't ask, very long story as to why. | | | | | | |

| | Darn, you won't share? That's kind of a curious statement. :) I love your answers, they are always so detailed and interesting. Yet as detailed as they all are, they leave me wondering even more - like the story of your ancestors. Thanks for that. | | | |

| | Wow you should take pictures and show them to us. Did you pick all those out after you got married or were they wedding gifts? My husband and I eloped - well kind of - to Las Vegas - so no shower or wedding presents. | | | |

| | Actually I got most of them since I was divorced. When I redid my kitchen I got the summer harvest ones because they have cherries on them...the others I have had for years and I love all of them! LOL | | | |

| | Hi artemis, dishes and cutlery are not that important for me. When we made our two households into one we decided to use my jumble of everyday dishes for ordinary days and to save the good stuff my husband bought years ago, for guests and special days like a few days ago his birthday. I have some stuff from a good friend of my mom she gave to me when she was moving into that senior citizens home and could not take everything with her. And I treasure these because of who gave it to me. | | | | | | |

| | I can understand you treasuring those dishes from your mom's friend. And how lucky that your husband brought some good stuff since you don't consider it important so you can have nice dishes for if needed but never had to think about getting it yourself. Its not too important to me either, although I often covet the Asian plates and bowls and the Talin Market. Some plates and cutlery are expensive and to me, if you have that kind of extra money lying around - use it to fill up your library - both movie and book library! | | | |

| | yes buying books would make much more sense to me than investing in dishes and cutlery. In fact I have inherited silver cutlery from my great aunt but thats still sitting at my Moms and I dont really want that stuff. | | | |

| | I know what you mean. I don't like things like that - things you're afraid to use or break. And panic if someone does or almost does. To me its akin to having jewelry you keep at the bank. | | | |
