My first visit to New Orleans, Louisiana  |

 My husband has been to New Orleans several times for Jazz Fest, we've been together for 11 years and he has always promised to take me, well this year, it finally happened! We left on Thursday night (April 25th) and returned the following Monday. We arrived on Friday morning at 8:30, we went with another couple, his siter lives in Kenner, so we stopped in there first thing, we couldn't check into our hotel until 3, so we had a few hours to kill, even though we were tired, we went to the French Quarter and walk around. They wanted to show me as much as possible since we had such a short trip. The sites were AMAZING! If you've never been, you should try to visit. On Saturday, we went to th Jazz Fest, within a few hours of being at the horsetracks, it started to pour. We had to walk back to the vehicle in ankle deep water, and we were separated from the other couple so we got a little lost, so we had a little further to walk, Sunday we decided not to go so his Sister sold our tickets (at face value only). We spent to day back at the French Quarter, after going to a wonderful church, I'm not sure of it's name but it was great.

1.  kykidd (4493) | 2 years ago |  It sounds like you had a wonderful time, even though it did rain. I have been wanting to go to New Orleans for most of my life. I had one trip planned their, but had to cancel because of septic problems at my home. But I will make it there someday!

| webeishere (12367) | 2 years ago |  My brother and his wife were just there early this year for Mardi Gras and had a blast and took thoudands of photos as well. They said the French Quarter is awesome.

| 2. webeishere (12367) | 2 years ago | I've never been there and still want to go. I had a friend that I talked with online and on the phone from there. She lived 2 blocks from Lake Ponchatrain and I have not heard from her or her family since Katrina. I fear the worst and never have searched to see if they all passed as I know they did because she just dissapeared from here and the phone number is no longer in service. I have gone to many jazz festivals around this area in northern USA. My wife and I just saw Etta James a month or so ago. She is an old time Jazz singer along the lines of Billie Holiday sounding. A great concert.

| gapeach65 (634) | 1 year ago | My husband and I met Etta James (and got her autograph)in Atlanta a few years ago at a music festival, she's wonderful! I hope one day yo find out about your friends. The friends we visited, relocated from their flooded house (I can't remember what city they lived in), she and her husband had only been married a couple of months, he stilled owned his house in Kenner,La. So they fixed it up (it was flooded but had less damage) and that's where they live now. It was interesting to see the walls on some places that still had water marks on them, or the buildings that still had markings from the national guard and the vacant places, but the city really has come a long way. | |

I had gone on so many business trips there and I almost made it my second home right before Katrin hit. I am glad I experienced New Orleans before Katrina, because it wasn't close to being the same city after the storm. It's been a while since I've been back and it looks like from your review that it's gain some of it's momentum back. Thanks for sharing!
