Congress took Presidents Bush's request for funding the troops in Iraq and split the request into three parts. On funding the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan The vote along party lines voted down funding for the troops. The Democrats in the House added Increased funding for Unemployment and greatly increased the funding for the GI Bill. The increases would be funded by a tax on the Wealthy (those making over $500,000, or married making over $1,000,000, per year). There was also a provision in the bill to require the president to begin withdrawing the troops for Iraq within 30 days with a non binding goal of total withdrawal within 18 months. The Democrat Party is playing politics with the lives of our troops.
Funding for the domestic programs would hurt small business the most, a sector of the economy that is the backbone of the nation and a chance for people to experience the American Dream.

Perhaps you do not remember the last war we were winning and left because the Democrats cut off funding. It was called Viet Nam and we watch as millions in South East Asia were murdered. That to was a war we had won until the media and Far Left declared we lost. The US and South Viet Nam defeated the North Viet Nam army during the Tet Offencive and the News Media declared that we had been beaten by the North. You need to study the real history of the war and then decide what your freedom is worth. I have two sons in the Military and several friends They are all willing to put their life on the line to protect your freedom. We are winning the war and winning the hearts of the people in Iraq. IF we leave now we will be an open target for every radical group to attack us and demand that we change to suit them.

It amazes me whenever I hear or read of someone who thinks we left Vietnam too soon! Losing 50,000 of my classmates and friends wasn't enough? As for us winning the "hearts and minds" of the Iraqi people, try telling that to those who can't go back home to Iraq for fear of being killed for helping the Americans yet we won't allow them to seek refuge here.

As is usually the case, each side accuses the other of "playing politics" with the lives of our troops. The fact that it's the GOP that has failed to get the troops the body armor and armor for their vehicles for years as well as the fact Bush has stated he will veto the new GI Bill that makes me think it's the Republicans that are playing games here. My husband and I fall far short of making $1 million per year but if we did we'd certainly be willing to do our part in funding the G/I. Bill as we as extended unemployment benefits. Anyway, here's what I found about the bill you've referred to:

Also, what's the problem with the mention of time-tables when it seems your nominee is now on board with that idea? Didn't he say in his "fantasy" speech that most of the troops will be home by the end of his "first" term?
