What ways are you environmentally conscious? Do you recycle, use solar power, buy from thrift stores? In what ways do you protect your family and your environment?

I am to a point....I do alot of recycling. I hardly use many lights in my house but that will be the next thing I do is to get the energy efficient bulbs...I have my own line of greeting cards made from recycled wall paper...I am hoping that will catch on but I think people are slow to jump on this bandwagon. I think they think they might have to give up something.....they forget about what they will gain in the long run.

Oh my gosh that is such a good idea, do you mind if I use the recycled paper idea for my own cards? Boy would it save money too!

I would love it if you did...every month the paper sample books are thrown in the garbage....if you ask they give them to you free and the paper is so beautiful! And it's all coordinated. I use the paper and sometimes cut out shapes in the borders to use on the front too....and have made some beautiful cards.

Where do they throw these away - where would I go. I love that you have your own line. I do - kind of - I just have never shared with anyone else - so it doesn't really count. I don't want to sell them piecemeal as I have so many!

I don't do much really, I recycle glass, cans and paper and I turn of appliances when I am not using them, but I don't go out of my way to recycle or do anything green.

I try to be as green as I can. I recycle bottles and cans, paper (when I can). I try to buy organic food when I can afford it and I would like to have a hybrid but can't afford a new car right now.

My husband is considering a moped and I'm jealous. I might considering actually getting my license to ride one of those. He figures he can save on gas. Not sure of the green factor on that though. Our county has a separate can for recycling. I think its great you do what you can!

I try to be as environmentally conscious as I can, but I know I could do more. I do a lot of shopping at second hand stores, both for my personal use and also for my crafts, when I can. We also recycle most of the items that can be recycled, and we use a lot of public transit.

I recycle cans and plastic. I have a huge bag of cleaned out plastic containers in my pantry. Someone stole our recycle bin awhile back and I refused to throw this stuff away. My husband thought I was crazy. Our recycle bin was just replaced though so I can put it all out to the curb next week. I also reuse all of our shopping bags as trash bags. I can't remember ever actually buying trash bags. I don't think I ever have! My kids LOVE to recycle! It is fun for them for some reason and I am not complaining.

Wow, was it the county who gave you the bin - our cans are numbered. Our landlady bought the house next door and turned it into three apartments. She borrowed our cans one day and when she returned them - she gave us the ones from next door and the garbage man refused to pick up our trash! The took the bins. I think its great that you've never bought trash bags, but especially wonderful is the fact that you bring your kids in on the "fun".

Okay so you answered the question in the subject line but not the main things in the tread starter. In what ways are you enviromentally conscious, how do you protect your family and planet in green ways?

I recycle and reuse. I also think up and keep up on some of the latest trends with green building, life and renewable energies (even as mylot discussions). Not just that, almost anything that could help humanity get away from certain environmentally damaging habits, I learn about and think about (transportation, alternate transportation, newer energy sources... all as discussions too by the way).
