Have you researched your ancestry?

I'm 40 years old and I honestly don't know where I came from, I've never sat down and asked my parents who their parents were or where our family started, and I don't have any living grandparents. I've done some research on how to obtain some information, but my research would be limited to find out what I really want to know. Have you traced your heritage back to the beginning? I think we should all try to find out our starting point don't you?

I am not really sure where I come from even though recently my cousin has sent us a questionaire to fill out,she called it a family history project,it is 57 annoying questions that we are susposed to answer and send back too her,and then maybe what she is planning will help me learn more about our family.

Oh, HC, you should do it, apparently your cousin wants to know and is taking a step towards that goal. It might be pretty cool to know, don't you think?

Hi, I didn't research on it, but I got to know through my dad. I used to ask him about where grandparents from and how we become Malaysian. For your information, my grandfather is from mainland China and now we are all Malaysia citizens. Anyway, not much information I got. I do wanting to pay a visit to China where my grandfather came from in the future. Who knows I still have some relatives there.

My whole point was geared towards finding your roots and then traveling to see them. Congrats on becoming a Malaysian citizen.

I'm not really sure of myself, but I have met my mother's relatives on her mother's side when I went to their province. Some of my grandfather's too, but I haven't really been to their place. I have met some of my father's relatives, but never actually knew their roots and from where they really were. It's kinda hard understanding it, so I am planning on finding the answers someday by myself.

It will most likely give you pride in your ancestry that you didn't know you had. Best of luck.

I have not, either. My uncle did research his side of the family, but that leaves my dad's side. Which websites are helpful for you? I always want to, but I don't know where to start. I should ask my grandparents now, who knows? Well take care. Pablo

There are a bunch of websites to look at, I can't recommend one because they all do it differently. You could ask your grandparents, they could give you maiden names that you probably wouldn't know about. That's how most of these companies do their research. Maiden names and birthdates, you may be able to find out some lost information from your grandparents though.

Yes, I have been doing research on our family tree and love doing it. Once you start you want to keep going back further and further. Then you start finding information on one of your grandmothers maiden names and it gets very interesting. It is a fun hobby. I like going to old cemetaries and transcribing what is on the tombstones.

My ancient ancestry is also a mystery? I am curious to know where and from whom I came from. I started a family tree from the information that I have, but was only able to go back 3 generations.

Me too, there is a longing to find out where I came from, good history or bad. I want to leave something to my children, if not my legacy, their family one.

I ended up finding a lot of information out about my mother's family as she was all Irish and other relatives traced the ancestors all the way to County Meath and County Kerry. I though have not found out a lot about my Father's family which was Belgian French on his father's side and German on his mother's side. It does feel very good to have roots and if you can trace them back to Country of origin it is very good even on one side of the family.

Sure it is. I think a lot of people struggle with where they came from so it might make them hesitant to take a direction in life. We should all know our roots and how deep they go.

I havent really done any research myself. I know enough of my family tree to have applied for meitis status on my dads side. My grandad on my moms side however has spent YEARS researching that side of the family and has gone back many generations. Reading the family tree files he has is such an awesome thing to read.

I'm sure! My wife's side is Native American (Cherokee) and she has an Indian card so right now we're in New Mexico and we've seen some cultural things that our kids can link to their parents.

Yes. I agree with your point. But the key is how to find out. It seems to be difficult. Of cource, we can get some information from our parents and grandparents, or older ones. But we can just do so. Do you have other good idea to find out?

I did research my ancestry since I also have no living grandparents and my dad and my other relatives don't have any idea.. By searching my last name, I learned that my forefathers came from Spain and they were with the Spanish Galleon who landed here during the Spanish era..lol..I have now Filipino,Spanish and Chinese blood...lol..

dear friend family names and background will give more impact in the society. most of the young generation dont know their grand ma and pa names. its our duty during our family get to gether ( if not one start from today) gather every one in the family specially kids and educate them our family backgrounds and who is who. young generation will know much about michael jackson and modona more than their own family!! its not their mistakes but its the mistake of the parents hope you agree with me. dont worry ask - you will get the answer have a healthy family history and enjoy life dubai jana
