The school system in my county decided to have school as usual this year on Veterans' Day.
A lot of the parents were upset about this decision because to them it is unpatriotic, especially since
the USA is at war and many of them have family members in Iraq. The school officials decided to
give the kids a half day off, but I don't think it's enough. I think they should relent and call
it a school holiday. What are your thoughts on this?

I was meaning to post about the Memorial Day Holiday because it will be on Monday, but the same would apply if it was for Veterans' Day. My son informs me that the teachers told him it is just a study day and no one will be counted absent if they don't come. But I say if they are going to have a day like that, why not just call the day a holiday and let the kids out instead of making them go for that half day. They should do it in honor of Memorial Day and what it represents.
