Have you or your children ever had scalp critters?

I had a neighbor that use to call me about once a month and ask me if my kids had come home with head lice. I would check the kids and tell her no. She would get so mad she would almost turn inside out. Then in the background I could hear her yelling at her kids. She used a tone of voice that said she blamed the kids. Well, when my daughter was in the third grade she would take her ponytail down after she got on the bus, and sure enough, in no time she was coming home with head lice on a regular basis. I finally had to cut her hair back to above her shoulders and the problem stopped for the most part. This explained why my neighbors daughter always had scalp critters, both our girls had real long hair. The difference was my daughter's hair was put up to try to help keep her cool (we live in the south) and the other girl just let hers hang loose. Of course we would all end up with the little bugs. Like they say though, there is no shame in getting head lice, only in keeping them lol.

My children have gotten head lice and let me tell you I freak out over that crap....ewwww I had three children who all ended up getting it and I had to CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN EVERYTHING! Getting rid of head lice in order to make sure you don't get it again is A LOT OF WORK!! I know that many people believe that the people who get lice are dirty, well FYI...anyone and everyone gets head lice, in fact if you read about head lice, you will learn that the lice probably do not care if your hair is clean or dirty...even though I did hear that it is easier for the lice to live in clean hair because of clean hair having less oil. Also, as for the ponytail thing, I have never heard that having a ponytail keeps you from getting head lice, I figured that lice wouldn't care if your hair is up in a ponytail or down. Have a great day, Nelly

I think the only reason her pony tail kept her from getting them like the other little girl did is because it must have kept her hair from flying around and being made as accessible to the kids that did have it. But it's true, the whole time it stayed in a pony tail, she never had them. As soon as she started taking it down, the problem started. Then when I cut it back to shoulder length, she stopped coming home with them, the other girl continued to have a problem with them.

I remember well, and Shell had the thickest head of hair out of all the kids.
