Dianne Odell of Tennessee, 61, lived in iron lung after contracting polio at age 3
She died after a power failure cut the breathing device's electricity
Spinal deformity kept her from using portable modern machine
"Dianne was one of the kindest and most considerate people," friend says

What I don't get, why there wasn't a back up generator in place?

How could any kind of hospital not have backup power? Something like this should not have happened.

It was in her home. They had one generator. It wouldn't start. I would have had 2. Just in case

That is so sad. Too bad she didn't have a better backup electrical system. But, I guess not everyone can afford an automatic back up generator. There are systems that run on natural gas and kick on as soon as the power kicks off. I want one, but they are too pricey. Looks like not having one killed this poor woman.
