Life vs Death of a Baby Bird

This afternoon we found a baby bird in our kitchen - all huddled in the corner.
I don't know how it got there, but can only presume the cat brought it in ... but didn't stay to finish it off? Seems a little odd to me (knowing our cat), but can't work out how else it arrived.
Anyway, we have put in into a box with some straw and papertowels to keep it warm and hubby has been feeding it with flies.
I tried calling the animal shelter, but given it is Sunday evening - no success there!
The little thing is so keen and hungry - when you open the box it is now standing up on it little legs and squawking for more food - flapping its little wings too.
It seems unharmed (so far) and I am just wondering what we should do it with? Also, are we doing the right thing so far?
Any comments, suggestions and/or advice?
Thanks

Poor little birdie! Eugh, no offence, but I hate cats. I've never successfully saved an injured bird, but they've always been adults. Babies are easier to keep alive as the shock of the attack and later captivity doesn't have such a toll on their little hearts.
Do you know what kind of bird it is? The food it eats will be important, but if it's doing well so far you must be feeding it the right things.
Is there one of those massive pet stores near you? They're usually open on Sundays and you can buy crickets or meal worms to feed it... fly supplies must be pretty limited. Failing that, very small chunks of fresh meat.
As for doing the right thing; that's subjective.
