hi mylotters do you agree we are about as happy as we
make up our minds to be? That we do not have to have
a lot of external forces going right to be Happy?
that we can make ourselves happy about all the time, right?
That we do not have to depend on others to make us happy?

I agree with those words. Some of us choose to be negative thinkers and unhappy people and others choose to be positive and happy people. It is up to us how we view things and how we react to bad situations. Depending on others for happiness doesn't work you have to be happy with in yourself before you will ever know true happiness.

What you say is true to an extent, but there are those people who may need medication and the first time illness strikes them, they feel very sad and do not know why! Other people are sad because they are being abused or have been abused! I think the serenity prayer helps people to become happy, as they accept what they cannot change and begin o change what they can!

olivemai,
I agree with you on some people who need to be on medication because of health issues making them sad. Depression and metal illness are things that a person can't fix with a change of attitude. Children can not always get out of an abusive home so they can not change the situation to make their lives better but most adults can. Since adults can change that situation I feel that it falls back onto people chooing to be unhappy. But you do bring up a very good point that not everyone can choose to change the situation or change having mental illness.

I agree with that, we can just set our mind if we want to be happy all the time. In fact, for me, even if I am quite mad or sad, every time I want to smile, i will just listen to the music and for less than 5 minutes, my feelings will change. We all know what makes us happy and I know if everyone will do it, there will be no room for sadness!

Yes I do believe that is very possible. I even have one friend who seems to be happiest when she is miserable!! I don't think I could live my life in a blue funk. I am very much the eternal optimist and always look on the bright side of life. I do not allow myself to be unhappy because I know it could be a lot worse when some bad things occasionally happen.

Hi Patsie,
I think Abraham Lincoln is right. We are as happy as we make our minds to me.
Anyone can conduct his or her experiment and know it to be true.
But the crux here is how long you can "deceive" yourself. Cheers.

I do agree with this statement. The only person that can make someone happy is themself. No one can depend on another person or anything to make them happy except for themself. Many people rely on others to make them happy and if one can't find happiness within themself, they will never be able to experience true happiness,

yes i belive this to b true..i am normally the happy go lucky kinds...i very rarely get down on my moods..normally ppl who r unhappy bcoz they keep thinking abt lot of negative things like jelousy or he said this to me,i need to put my best foot forward, i need to keep a good image so they r always concious...and they cant spk abt their inner thoughts bcoz they clash with the outer image they r showing..i dont really feel jelous i always tell ppl i know tht i m like this and u need to accept me same..i m very straight forward and like to give ppl their space and value their opinion as well....Health problems are a different issue those even make me unhappy but we cannot do much abt them as they r not in our control..so very simple b true and u will b happy..

Hatley, I believe we are responsible for our own happiness, that if we depend on someone else to make us whole and happy, then we never will be. So I agree with this statement. even if we do not have much as far as material things if we believe in contentment then we become happy.

thats the best way to live life to be content with
what we have, that way lies happiness.

Yes, I agree 100% with that statement. I believe that happiness comes from within the person. For instance, if a car could make people happy, then everyone that has a car should be happy....but they're not. Its not the car, but rather our perception of what that car may do for us, thus the car brings us joy, but the joy comes from within.
