When Quilting, do you use Fat Quarters? |
|
When you quilt do you buy the fat quarters, go and buy a specific number of meters? Or do you use "Scraps" or left overs?
I'm one that uses Scraps, leftovers, I take apart old clothes (especially pants) and buy metered fabric for specific patterns. I've never used fat quarters, up until a few weeks ago I wasn't even sure what they were.

thank you for responding.

susanh39 (165) | 2 years ago | There is a fabric line now that has reproduced many of the patterns that might have been used on feed sacks years ago. The fabrics are really sweet! Any quality quilt shop would probably carry them.:)

saundyl (4353) | 2 years ago | That's really cool. I'm going to have to look into those fabrics next time I buy for a new project. I love quilting its...relaxing until my machine misbehaves.

2. susanh39 (165) | 2 years ago | Hi saundyl, I do use fat quarters now and then, but I'm a big scrap quilter. I use yardage as well, depending on the project and the recipient of the quilt I'm making. Right now I'm working on two quilts made from my daughters' old clothes. Some of them need a bit of reinforcement, so I'm using interfacing on those pieces. I'm sticking mostly though with the 100% cotton clothes. I'm making one for each daughter and if there are any pieces left, I'll make something for myself. Some of the fabrics bring back sweet memories and I wanted to capture those.
Do you use the foundation method for your scrap quilt projects? I like using muslin.
Happy Quilting!! Susan

3. SallyAnna (139) | 3 months ago | Hi Saundyl,
It depends on the project and what it calls for I've found that sometimes it's cheaper to buy the fat quarters. It can be less wasteful also again depending on the pattern.
