I will be picking up two pairs of prescription glasses today after I cash my unemployment check - yes - unemployment! I can afford not ONE, but TWO pairs of eyeglasses on unemployment! It costs me less for two pairs without insurance there than it did for ONE pair 2 years ago WITH insurance!! thumbup

Two pairs of glasses start at $69.95. It includes the eye exam. Of course, as with anything, if you want certain health conditions checked, there will be an additional charge; safety lenses, more; tints; more. But, that's only logical. And, naturally, the better the frames, the higher the price. Yes - they do have designer frames and, yes, you can mix and match prices (I think - they prorate the difference).

Bi-focals are an additional $20, I think. Still not bad considering I paid $150 for a single pair AFTER INSURANCE!!! Plus, one pair will be sunglasses! cool

You can learn more about them at www.twopairs.com . Find out if they're in your area. They also do contacts.

Hi Jerzgirl! I am on a fixed income, so have to save every chance I get. There is so much out there that I do not know about, and if we only get the tips on saving, it helps. Maybe this site will do just that for us. I have tried the discount insurance, nope... does not work, tried the medical insurance... does not either. So here is what I found to work for me: Joined the Sams club, about $35.00 a year, depends on which plan you take, found they have best buys. I wore glasses for about 5 years, not for me.... changed to contacts and been wearing them about 15 years now. My cost for contacts (depends on the style, Acuvue Oasys-no tint, is $29.87 for each eye (supply for 6 months), and $14.87 (standard for same supply). Make calls in your shopping area, ask for prices, you may be surprised how much you can save! Let me know if this information helped! Good luck! PS: Add me to your friend's list! Thanks!

Wow, thanks for sharing that! I haven't ever heard of it, but I will definitely check out that website. I wear contact lenses, and my insurance unfortunately doesn't pay for glasses or contacts at all-it just covers the cost of the actually doctor's appointment. That stuff really gets expensive!

That's for sure!! The pair I got with insurance cost me $35 co-pay for the eye doctor and $150 for the glasses AFTER insurance!! That was at Lenscrafters and I couldn't even see out of the. They told me I'd get used to them. Right. I ended up using them only when I drove. I can see clearly out of these and I love them!

That's not to say all offices are equal - if the people in any one office don't really care, it will make the entire company look bad. But, I had used them in Utah long before they came East and knew what they had. Their office in Philadelphia didn't seem to care much. Even though my vision in one pair was blurry and in the other pair was clear, they said both were identical and it was me. They also didn't fit the glasses to my head - I had to make my own adjustments. Where I went this time in New Jersey, I had no problems whatsoever!

I didn't have to wait for an appointment - I was the only one there when I went and I got right in to the doctor. And, I was waited on as soon as I walked through the door when I went to pick them up.

There are those who will argue that their quality is less - but I don't see it. Maybe they use discontinued frame styles to reduce cost, but beyond that, I couldn't see anything else "less". But, those frame styles are new to me, so what difference does it make?

I hope you can connect with them in your area. They really are a good deal for non-insured and lower incomes.

I went to them one time. They were ok, but i had to wait a long time in the store for an appointment. I remeber I had some kind of issue, because I called my boyfriend now husband to complain about something, and he told me how to handle it.
