wood furniture? I got a second-hand desk, but it smells like smoke. Is there anything I can do to get rid of the smell other than leaving it outside to air out?

Why don't you paint it over. Paints tends to take out scent that does not needed in things like furniture.

Paint would work, but I really want to leave it natural. Thanks.

Yeah the only thing I know that would work is the white vinagar as you were told first but I would also put baking soda inside the drawers. I agree with you natural wood is much better. I can't stand it when good solid wood is painted. I refinish antique furnisher and strip everything to the natural wood.

i have heard of smell out of cloths but never smell out of furniture. Though what you could do is try to use a wodden polish you get good ones that smell good too and apply that on. hope it works..

I have my step dad that works in a wood factory and I asked him this question and what he said was depending on the type of wood you have you can rub in some bee's wax as this will recondition the wood but will also leave a nice smell behind that will soak into the wood.
Hope this helps
