Do you remember the first house you bought?

Newly married, my husband and I bought a house built at the turn of the century. The house had quite a history. At one time it was a store, and when we took off the wallpaper in the kitchen, you could see the marks where the shelves used to be. In the living room, under the 7 layers of wallpaper, we found a waxy type section on one wall. The house served as a school house for a time when the city school burned down. The bathroom had one of those old tubs. The stairs were so narrow, the tub couldn't be removed. We were replacing a window where our shower was going, so the workers threw the cast iron tub out the window of the second story onto the lawn. My first house is filled with amazing memories and if I listed them all, you'd never get to the end of the story. We restored the house to its original design. I loved that house the minute we walked in the door. That was in 1978. If I could, I would return to that house and live there the rest of my life. Your turn. What stories do you have about your first house? If you don't own a home, what kind of house would you like to live in? I'm attaching the last house I lived in because it was beautiful. It's a picture taken from the back yard. You can see morning room that had mulit-paned windows and wooden beams. (I hope) I'll never stop missing that room.

anawar, Your last house is beautiful, I bet you do miss it. I have bought 5 houses in my life time. The first house we bought was in 1972 when we first moved to Arkansas, it was brans new, had just been built. It was real nice, not real big, it had 3 bedroom, a very big back yard, I did have a swimming pool every house I ever lived in.The next to the last house I had was quit like your last house, it was a two story, with 5 bedroom, and had a hudge den, two car garage, and a large back yard,I also had a beautiful bay window in the dining room.I really miss that house too.I now live in a older small house I have 2 bedrooms small den. It is big enough for me, I do have a large yard, I have big porchs on the front and back and also a deck on the back. I have a garage but it is not attached to the house. The nice thing is that this house is paid for.I bought it from my Dear Mother. Paid her payments for 10 years, she wanted to be sure I always had a roof over my head.

Your mother has a wonderful capacity to love and she gave it all to you because you were a wonderful daughter. The house will comfort you for the rest of your life.

That picture of the house is nice ^_^ It has a very country look and yet modern ^_^ hehe ^_^ SInce i was borned till now, i've been living in the same house and i still quite like it very much except that it's abit small.. hehe ^_^ If ever i gonna have my own house, i will still design the same way as the way it's now because it's more cozy this way when i've got only a small family.. hehe.. ALl i ask for is to have 2 more rooms in the house, making it to 4.. 1 for my parents, 1 for me, 1 for my brother, and the last room will be my gym room.. hehe ^_^ I will be contented with a house like this as when a house is too big, it will appear to be very empty even though there are ple inside.. It may look grand on the outside but it's just an empty shell after all ^_^ Just imagine that, when we go off to work, only our parents will be in the house, so having a big house, will make them even more lonely ^_^

Oh.. It's ok with the mistakes.. PLe do make mistakes after all.. hehe ^_^ But that house do look really great, if i have a chance, i will love to have a house like that.. hehe ^_^ Thanks for your compliment once again.. hehe But it's indeed true, most ple will only think of big houses so that they an invite alot of ple.. But when the party has finished, all the ple and noise will be gone, wat's left behind will always be mess and quietness..

kun_ what a mess I made of this discussion. I back spaced out of my original set-up because I forgot to add my house. It got posted to mylot anyway, and that's not my house. I guess it's my day to be dumb. I love your perspective on the size of a house. Most people in America, especially in Florida love big houses. I agree. They are lonely, but I never thought of it before until you mentioned it. Your usual sweet and charming self shines through your comments everytime you post.

we bought our first house 4 years ago. i think we were kind of desperate because we regretted buying it shortly after we did it but we had to get out of where we were. one big selling point was the finished basement. we wanted to change the carpet, when we pulled it up their was mold. and to get to two of the bedrooms you had to walk through the first one. so that made it hard with the kids. it had a nice big yard, but the house sat right next to the road and people were always speeding past. the only thing we miss is the garage. we bought our second house 2 years ago. we live on main st in a small town, but we love our house. it has 5 bedrooms and 2-1/2 baths. there is plenty of room for our kids to grow. our yard is considerably smaller, but we still are happy here.

Wow. That was a rough first start. It's good you learned what type of house you do like and you're happy. Mold in a house can be very dangerous. In Florida, houses have to pass a mold and mildew inspection before they can be sold.

hi anawar oh do I remember our first house, it had a big picture window in the living room that faced onto the lawn. also the living room was panelled in wood panelling in a soft brown wood, not knotty pine,I think it was ash. I spent a lot of time refinishing that paneling and when we moved to Californias from Arizona I missed my house. oddly the second house we had had a large picture window in the living room also, and the living room was panelled in pine panelling with soft green carpeting. we had a large back yard and we made some really pretty gardens back there and we had three large avocado trees.

hatley- it sounds like your windows are following you wherever you go, not to mention the paneling. I wonder sometimes if things we care about do stay in our lives. The house I grew up in had a huge bay window in the living room that looked out over the backyard. My mom always kept geraniums on the window seat. Anytime you feel like shipping a few avacados my way, please don't hesitate.

Yep, I remember because I am still living in it. :-) It is a double wide mobile home which I was able to buy new, 15 years ago. I like the place and it is just the right size for my husband and I. We probably won't live here forever, but it is a great place for now. We are in process of spending the next few months fixing it up, as it is showing its age. We are getting a new roof put on this weekend. We will also put a new floor in the kitchen, and eventually new rugs. I think we will be done over the next two or three years.
