Goes like this:
You're shipwrecked on a desert island (some versions have it "walled up in a cave"), from which you're probably NEVER going to leave.
Name the five books YOU most want to have for the rest of your life!
I for one, would NOT choose Robinson Crusoe! LOL!
But seriously. I asked, so I'll go first.
1. The Douey-Rheimes version of the bible.
2. A how-to book that would make me able to survive on materials & food at hand.
3. Any book of Dave Barry's or P.J. O'Rourke's. Gotta have HUMOR, y'know? :o)
4. A book of great poets' works from all countries.
5. A blank book -- extra large, so I could record thoughts, which book -must- come with a life-time supply of ink & pens! LOL!
YOUR TURN! :o)

Again, books I haven't read, but have heard of (specially Gravity's Rainbow), but one I DON'T know of, too! What's Blood Meridian? Who wrote it (it's unimportant if the writer's unknown to me or even to ANYONE; I like surprises, especially LITERARY ones)?
Good choices -- especially Slaughterhouse 5! Thanks for the response.

1 I would take the bible because i would be sure to be depressed while I was there, and also I could become a bliblical scholar.
2 Robinson Crusoe sounds like a good bet
3 A few minutes with Andy Rooney funny book actually
4 any really good thriller
5 Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt

I've heard that title ("Angela's Ashes"), but have yet to find time to read it. I usually have 2 to 5 books going -- in different rooms -- simultaneously.
Can you give me a bumper sticker review of what it's about, with no spoilers? It keeps cropping up on my radar from pals whose taste I trust, so I probably WILL check it out, but it'd push me faster if the subject particularly intrigued me. /o)
TIA for any help, & thanks NOW for your response!
