tigertang (1494) | 1 year ago | I'm with you on this one. Bill Gates is, contrary to what many Mac Fans would suggest a very decent person. Although he's been world's richest man according to Forbes for the longest of times, I don't think either he nor Warren Buffet were terribly interested in trying to climb the corporate ladder. Both men were just interested in doing what they did best and you know what they say about money - those who have it don't need to be on Forbes's list or to write books about how to get rich. It's only those who don't have it that need to brag about it.
Bill was not doing things out of altruism but he's achieved many things and I think its right to suggest that he has been one of history's single biggest wealth creators and most generous philanthropist. OK, putting the rest of us in a position where we were all forced to use the PC instead of the Mac was not nice. But hey, that was good business and it's not harmed us per se. And as a non computer buff, I'm ok with the PC, Gates made it easier to use than the days of having to hit to enter button for I don't know what.
But back to the topic. I think Bill Gates made getting rich very simple. All people had to do was to work for him at Microsoft and collect stock options. Seattle is filled with ordinary people who have become very rich just by doing their jobs and Microsoft and I think when you create wealth, you reduce the number of people suffering from accute poverty.
And to think he did all of that before he set his mind and energy to doing good. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is doing many wonderful things to reduce poverty, disease and other such nasties in the world today. All credit to them.
I don't Bill Gates is terribly interested in reaching the Number 1 spot on Forbes. He's not interested in creating reality TV - he's now going to spend the rest of his life trying to make a difference with all the money that he has made. All power to him and Melinda.
