What are strange ways to save money on gasoline?

Lately someone told me that she put rubbing alcohol in her car to save money on gas. I also overheard someone talking about putting french fry grease in their gas tank to save gas. On the news this guy actually drives his gas on neutral. Here's another one that I do if it's not extremely hot I will not turn my air conditioner on in my car because several people told me that if you turn the air on in the car on hot days it will burn more gas. Lately I can't take it anymore I am using my air conditioner in my car because it is too hot to roll the windows down. Lastly this might be a scam but there are people selling gas pills online and some water converters to make cars run off of water.

I think somebody had actually discovered how to make cars run on water. One thing for sure, that there is already a car that would run on compressed air and will be out in India before this year ends. I think that the positive thing that could come out of this oil crisis is that we are forced to look for alternative ways. Even the governments and big corporations could start financing the studies on finding alternatives to oil and gas. I believe some of them may already work since people are simply brilliant. Who knows, that the next 'inventor' who will make a difference in centuries to come is one of those have posted ones invention in ebay.

First I wouldn't buy one of those pills. It is just a way to seperate desperate people from their already hard earned income. We have a child in the car. So we will use our AC. She already overheats easily. My mom has been walking to more places to pick up things she needs. She is hanging her laundry. That saves on her electric bill. The savings go into her tank.

I would not ever consider buying one of those pills either. I don't believe it works. I also don't know anyone who actually tried it. When my children are in the car I always use my air conditioner, when I'm by myself I may roll the windows down if the weather is 80 degrees but if it's over 80 I will turn the air conditioner on because I can't stand the heat. It would be nice if I could walk to places, but I'm not walking distance to any major places where I need to go. Hanging laudry is a good way to save on electricity, but I don't usually practice that because I hate doing laundry so I skip out on that to avoid the extra work. I usually have my air conditioner in my home set to 72 degrees but I moved it up to 73 and to my surprise our electricity bill is $20 less less and we are still confortable and cool. Our electrity bill for a entire month was only $45 dollars and it cost more than that to fill our tank lol.

I think the extra gas used with the air-conditioner on is very little. I have tested this last summer on a hot day, we drove the 200 miles to my mother-in-law's place, and I used the same amount of gas as I had during the winter with no air-conditioning on. I know this because I started off with a full tank and filled it full again as soon as I arrived. There may have just been a few pennies extra, but nothing much at all. To save gas, I try to let the car cruise as much as possible keeping my foot very lightly on the gas peddle. When most modern cars go down hill, if you take your foot right off the gas peddle, no petrol goes through to be burned in the engine. Older cars didn't used to to this. So the lighter you keep your foot on the gas, the better fuel consumption you will get.

I was told in fact by another myLotter ages ago who worked at a refinery to always fill up first thing as any sediment etc in the pump tanks will have settled giving you more gas for your money and never to fill when there is a tanker delivery. Always run the tank on half full or full never near empty as it gives room for more evaporation. Also using an aircon uses more up to 25% more fuel on a slow journey rather than having the windows open. Ellie :D

You know I believe that one about keeping the tank full because I notice when I spend about $50(who knows it might be more now to completely fill it),it seems like the gas lasts longer. When I fill it near empty it's like a waste,I believe that it evaporates, but sometimes I'm just too stingy to fill it because I want to use my money to get my hair done, and just don't go out as much.
