My neighbor just came over and said "I just wanted to let you know the kids arent allowed to fish in the canal anymore and i wouldnt let them fish on your side either because there is a 7 foot gator out there and i watched it eat a coot(a duck/bird type animal)so needless to say my fiance who normally catches them and then releases them into the river up the street will have a mission on his hands...
Anyone else have to deal with gators? we are in florida in the everglades so we are in there territory.

I am glad that your fiance catches and releases. I feel bad for the 'gators that are killed. Humans are intruding on their homelands, and then want to kill the 'gators for not giving their homes up. It is becoming a problem, but it is good that your fiance does what he does.
I heard that other places in the state have annual alligator hunts. I did not get the information from it, but the term hunt makes me think that they are killing them. I sure hope not!

Yea they are letting anyone get license to get alligators these days because there are so many of them. My fiance gets them out of our canal because we have had a few run ins with mean ones who are aggressive and we cant have that around here not with all these kids but i think if its a 7 foot'r we might have a little problem getting it outta there. he catches them on a fishing line.. can u believe it :)

I just hope that they are not being harmed. It is us humans that are encroaching on their habitat, not they ours. I understand that you have kids, and that people in the area have kids, but the alligators were there first, and hopefully, they will continue to thrive there, and maybe everyone can co-exist with caution. I hope you and your kids remain safe.

No they are not being harmed. My fiance takes them down to the river and lets them go in there. he doesnt kill them or hurt them in any way. Gator tail is good yes but ive only had gator tail at festivals never from a friend or from our own hands. Thanks for your concern tho but we dont harm them so no worries. :)

You know how I feel about the little ones...catch and release...but a 7 footer is too big for your fiance to catch and probably aggressive enough to come out of that canal after a child or a pet. He needs to be shot.

One more thing, we are not in his territory. These gators have the entire Caloosahatchee River, Lake Okeechobee and the Everglades along with thousands of miles of canals to hunt in. They don't need to live in people's back yards.
