In China, there is a policy that one couple can only have one child. As the policy was put into practice in 1980, so now many families only have one child.
Yesterday, I heard the news that one plane is lost in the rescue of the earthquake, and 18 people on the plane lost there life. Three of them are in their 20s and the only child in their family.
Now I think their parents must be very sad about their death, and suffering more with the fact that no child in their late lives.
Now I think it maybe much better than have two or more child.

I think you'll find that the population in China is far too big already which has something to do with the very large families. The country cant afford to populate so many people.
It is sad when a family only has 1 child & they lose that child but i don't think it would be fair on the country or their economy to allow them to have 2 or more. Maybe 2 would be ok but then there's still an extra child per family to what there is now & that would add a VERY large number of people to an already over-populated country. It would also be unfair to those who are too old to have children any more but always wanted more than 1.
I know it seems a little harsh but the country obviously knows what they're doing or they wouldn't have put that law in place, or if it wasn't working they'd have lifted it by now & it's been almost 30 years - it's still in place.
I don't think it matters what country you're in either - a lot of people choose to have a single child family & anywhere can have a natural disaster that could take that single child's life away - this was proven with the Tsunami. Many families lost their child in that disaster & in some cases, some families lost more than 1 child so it can happen to anyone, anywhere.

For practicality reason having one child is good. It could be managed properly and is easier on the pocket. But in my own personal opinion a child is happier when he/she grows with siblings as the character of the child is better mold than living by himself and always looking after his parents as role model. I think a child must also look for a child role model and siblings are the ones that provide for such a need.
