I have never been close to my dad and have always found it hard ringing him, as he either isnt in, is busy or I dont have much to say! He is very forgetful, which we blame on old age. He has never been one for communicating except when we younger he would write!! I sent him a father's day card, which he has received to day which makes me wonder if that made him ring. Its not awkward talking to him, just the usual questions and then whatever springs to mind!! I have told him I will ring him on Sunday after 4pm when I finish work and he has said yes ok. He will either forget or be busy with stuff which makes it hard. Whats your relationship like with your father?? Are you close?? Whats your plans for fathers day???

I go through stages with my parents where we do not talk for months and then all of a sudden we are talking once a week for about two hours at a time. That though is with my Mum. My Dad can be a funny old thing, he is not one for ringing me on his own thought and just chatting. But I remember when he started selling things on ebay and he did not know how to do it he was on the phone to me everyday. I commented to him that this was the most he had ever spoken to me on the phone for in my whole lifetime! Of course when he became fed up of ebay, he also stopped phoning me! Plans for fathers day are unclear as yet, but I am hoping to do something good.

My father has passed on these many years now and I sometimes regret that I never told him how much I loved him. We were not brought up to be demonstrative and with five boys in the family we were pretty rowdy and needed strict disciplining. I was especially naughty as a boy but also very precocious and talented. My father always said that I was the first son to give him money which was his way of appreciating me as a son and how he was so proud of me. In his last days, he would ask me to type his briefs for him being a lawyer and he was already forgetting things and he would repeat himself. It was sad to see a lion of a man lose his memory like that. I wish I could have done more for him.
