What has high technology brought to us?

Our ancestors used to eat cold food, walk, harvest crops with their own hands, get information only from the written book or message speak out by mouth. Now we have bicycle, cars, railway, plane, ship, subway~ We can eat food across the world. We keep in touch with others by email, cellphone, fax~~ We wear flamboyant clothes, plastic, cotton, fiber, silk~ We drink bottled mineral water. Oh my god, so many many items to list~ But the technology also brough us environmental problems, and we don't do much exercises, we lack fresh air, thus lots of people travel to the countryside. Our relationship are kept by sending txt messages or making phones rather than shaking hands or sitting together to chat. Do you miss the ancient times? How far can we go if the technology keeps growing without taking the environment problems into consideration. I enjoy the benefits that high technology has brought to us while I'm worried about the future of the earth really, the resources will be run out one day, the environment will be exhausted and try to revenge human beijings. I had this thought for some days and it is recently that many disasters happen around my country make me to take a look at the world. And disasters are everywhere if you pay a little attention, it's not difficult to see one. And myself who sit in front of the computer everyday typing, reading, watching moive ect. find my health condition needs to be improved. Yeah, i didn't do exercise for such a long time. I better change Guys, please share your thoughs, whatever you come up with. Either your worries, your happiness, your suggestions or your experience. I thanks you for this **Enjoy life~~**

I agree our ancestors did eat cold food, they walked everywhere they went for the most part, and they had to harvest and work for the food they ate,and made their own clothing, and now we have new forms of transportation which makes people walk less,we buy clothes from stores instead of making them ourselves, and the new forms of transportation and the products being made hurt the environment and we are slowly make our resources go extinct,I think we should go back to the way things were because then life would be simple, and the world would be a healthy happier place for everyone who inhabits it.

Hey, hellcowboy, haven't seen you for weeks. How's everything? Yeah, i wish. But i don't think things will go back like that, and even if it has gone to the primitive society, we will feel uncomfortable, cause we've got used to lifestyle in current society. But i do agree that, life and people at that are much simpler, i like that part

Basically i'm ok, but sometimes i'll get upset because of boring work or of my lost lovers. I'm making every effort to perform well. Life in the ancient time is so simple which we can never go back. But we can remain simple in our heart. Please extend my best wishes to your girlfriend. Good luck to you both

yes. every hour, we have a new technology added. yes, there are advantages & disadvantages but i guess, they're just balanced. remember that technologies come up because people need them to make their lives easier. no one will build or invent a new technology unless someone will benefit from it. for me, we can't stop technology but we can be responsible for using them.

Hey, borg, it's our responsibilty to care about the common earth we're living. Technology brngs us a lot of benefits together with side effect. We should do our part for the environmental protection for example, use recycled bags, recycle battery, save water, electricity and other resources. Thanks for sharing **Enjoy life~~**

True, many of the world's disasters have the theme of "man vs. technology" in common - Titanic, Chernobyl, Challenger & Columbia space shuttles, to name a few. It has also put convenience over health on various occasions, and for some people, such as those who text message a great deal, it seems it has caused them to not have much in the way of writing skills. Technology has also made it possible to overwhelm us with thousands of different opinions (some right, some mistaken, and some just plain crazy) on the same topic. I believe that technology also has its advantages. The internet has made it possible to re-connect with old friends who we may have lost touch with years ago. This was not possible when our ancestors were alive - they would lose touch with someone and never see or hear from them again and likely spend the rest of their lives wondering whatever happened to that person. Also, I can recall my grandmother saying that in her mother's day, they did not have dishwashers and other basic conveniences that our modern-day society has become so dependent on. I loathe washing dishes and cleaning kitchens so much I am ever-thankful for technology to get the job done for me. For people in showbusiness like me (I am a dancer), it has also become an amazing asset as it is so much easier to share you work with others and discover new talents - and we even have services that pay us to share this work - and gone are the days where we would have had to move somewhere like Hollywood or New York if we wanted any prayer of "making it." It has opened up countless job opportunities for people. I myself remember the days of computers when webdesign was unheard of, and "pro blogging" was even less a possibility. So as you can see, technology will have its pros and cons and always will. I believe the key is to achieve a healthy balance. I exercise a great deal and eat healthy, and don't do a lot of ridiculous text messaging, or anything that doesn't seem to carry much purpose. It has not been hard for me but I can see where it may be difficult for others. We have the media everywhere trying to persuade us into trying everything, our friends are all looking "hip to the scene" so we feel pressured to look that way as well so as not to be looked down upon. But in reasonable doses, technology doesn't necessarily have to be bad. Like all things, too much of a good thing is... well... too much, and we should be careful not to over-do it in order to lead as healthy and well-balanced of a life as possible.

Hello, skydancer, oops, thanks for sharing in such a detailed way, wow, it took me minutes to read through. Yeah, internet is great, if there's no internet, i couldn't get accquainted with you guys here in mylot, friends all over the world. I'm feeling that i'm in a global village, get information and help quickly. In the old times, we may lose touch with each other because of long distance, but nowadays, distance is not a big problem any more. As to job opportunities, i couldn't agree more, my current job was applied through net, you remind me. No wonder your name is skydancer, hehe, you're a dancer, envy~~ Thanks again **Enjoy life~~**

We are now in the midst of a global crisis, that simply can't be ignored. In this age of supersonic planes and CFCs which are ripping apart the fragile ozone layer of the earth, greenhouse gas emissions from a hundred different sources which add to the global warming, and a million types of waste that are regularly being disposed of in water bodies leading to the deaths of so many unknown varieties of aquatic life, it's but natural that we should start experiencing some repercussions which Nature will deal out Herself upon us. We haven't taken any heed of the warnings for a long-enough time. Now the destruction has spun out of our control. It's like a marauding monster which we have created and upon which we no longer have any control and it's hell-bent upon destroying its creators. We can now only watch helplessly as low lying countries get engulfed by the sea, the polar cap steadily melts under the combined effects of global warming and ozone layer depletion, and we choke under the heavy, dark smoke lying like a blanket over us. I can't say whether this is the beginning of the end for us, but it sure looks like it, and however much mankind tries to distract itself by new technological leaps every year, the burning truth that we are living on a dying planet will always remain. The countdown has only just begun.

It's like a marauding monster which we have created and upon which we no longer have any control and it's hell-bent upon destroying its creators. Yeah, abhi, you've got a point there. It's true for person. We ourselves do sth wrong, such as commit a crime or hurting someone. Then we feel sad ourselves and will take a long time to get over the unhappinesses

The technology has brought so many things for us. It makes us have much more entertainment and also our work will be efficient because of the advanced technology. I like that. Although in the past people were worried the robots would take place them. I still agree to have the improvement. Its advantages are more than disadvantages anyway. In fact it can set free people from the dangerous and repeating work. I love China
