Is blood thicker than water in politics?

Here's a hypothetical situation: Your "Uncle Bob," your mother's brother is running for president. You've known Uncle Bob all your life and have your doubts about his ability to run the country. Still, he is your uncle, the whole family is supporting him, and you don't really like the other candidate. You're torn. You don't like the other candidate. You know he is more experienced and better qualified, but Uncle Bob is a relative. Who do you vote for?

So you would vote for the most qualified candidate available. Your right the office of president is far too important to choose it based on nepotism.

I want the most qualified person in office, whether he is family or not. I might make some relatives mad, but I would vote for the other candidate. I will not vote for a person whom I feel would not have the ability to run the country, regardless of relation. It all boils down to who can do the job the best in my book. So even though I don't like the other candidate, if I felt he/she could run the country better than good old "Uncle Bob". In my case, blood wouldn't be thicker than water.

That's a good attitude to have. After all, if you were right about Uncle Bob, he likely would flop as a president and be an embarrassment to the whole family.

What i look for when i am voting for a canditate when i am casting my vote is how qualified he/she is. Not if he/she is related to me or not. Leading a nation is a big responsibilty. It's way different than running a house...The uncle if not qualified should be politly asked to go back and run his household than ruining a nation. Even the best qualified people are having a difficult time managing our nation, so how will a person who is not qualified to run it succeed?

I completely agree with you about that. We shouldn't vote for someone not qualified no matter who it is.

I would vote for the most qualified candidate, even if it is an independent one. If you have your doubts about a relative, don't vote for him/her. They wouldn't know anyway, lol. Why put your support out to the person you know is not qualified, especially when it comes down to a job like president;)

Relatives are great but not all of them are equipped to run a country. There is too much at stake.

I just vote for the person I think can do the best job. I don't really think that if "Uncle Bob" was running for president, and I didn't really think he could do the job that I would vote for him. Honestly, how would your family know that you didn't vote for him? Unless of course they stalk you to the polls and watch you vote LOL. I don't really think you have to like the president as long as he can do the job well. There have been plenty that I didn't like and really didn't do a good job either

True. Also, if "Uncle Bob" didn't do a good job, he could be an embarrassment to the whole family.
