I always enjoy the Tony Awards immensely as I thought I would do last night. It was not to be, however, due to stormy weather and the constant interruptions from the station to issue and update alerts and bulletins. I have to say that I did enjoy the part of the show that I was able to see because I love theater and all of the show tunes and dramatic acting. This brings me to the point of my discussion. Have you ever eagerly anticipated a TV show only to ultimately miss out on all or part of it for some reason? I know that many people never turn off their TV during thunderstorms but I have done so all of my life. Apart from the fear of attracting a strike from a bolt of lightening I would find it hard to replace my TV were it to be struck.

We did have a television struck by lightening about 40 years ago. It was smoking when I first noticed there was a problem. Without thinking, I unplugged the tv. Lucky I wasn't zapped as well. I don't bother to turn off the tv's in a storm. If I was to turn them off, I would also unplug them from the wall so no power runs through them. My husband doesn't turn off the tv either. Actually our televisions are old but work extremely well so if something happened, I wouldn't be terribly upset. I'd be more upset trying to connect everything if I had to start over.

I was taught from childhood, carolbee, that electrical appliances carry the risk of attracting lightening and the safest thing to do is turn them off and unplug them.

I don't get nearly as worked up about it as I once did, TerryZ, but I have a great respect for the power of nature. lol

The Tony's were amazing. I was so happy to see the original cast of Rent. I waited all night preparing for that, lol. I can't wait to see In The Heights and Passing Strange. They seem ground breaking in their own way. Plus they offer more of a variety for Broadway. I'm sorry about the thunderstorm interrupting you. I hope you got to see some of the good stuff last night.

I did get to see some of the good stuff, drowning, and the part I saw was great! I think that average people should have more of an opportunity to be exposed to theater. I've always had a special place in my heart for it. thumbup

Yeah, I agree. More people really should be exposed to theater. That could definitely open up a few more minds.

When the Soap Opera "Passions" was still being shown on NBC, it seemed like they always broke in with a bulletin shortly after the show started. Not only did it seem like they would wait until two o'clock to show this news bulletin, but it would most times be something that could have waited until the news came on at 5pm. It would piss me off; there are no repeats when it comes to soaps, Passions doesn't have a contract with SoapNet so it wasn't shown on there, and the news wasn't even important enough to have to break in. I felt they were doing it on purpose lol.

I know what you mean, drknlvly! Passions was my absolute favorite soap, and I felt very cheated when they took it off network TV. I have found that the networks often pick on certain programs to interrupt for mundane bulletins that could very well have waited for the regular newscast. As a result of Passions going off the air I swore off all soaps and no longer watch any of them.

Oh lawd you were addicted too??? This soap is just crazy but it keeps you planted, waiting for what happens next. Unfortunately its going off the air completely soon. Taking it off network TV was really a bad move, the ratings dropped dramatically because not everyone that watched it has DirecTV, and not everyone that has DirecTV watches the 101 network, let alone Passions. I am on the edge of my seat to see how James E. Riley ends it all in Harmony!!! I will be sure to tell you.
