Recently I had two go into hospital for testa on my epilepsy..when I went to the Dr to find out the results all he said was I would have to speak to my neurologist about them after a bit of baiting with him as to what the results are he said that I have two types of epilepsy--loking at him rather flabberghasted I said how do you mean his reply was that one of them was non-epilepsy and the other epileptic fits-mmm
after asking him what he meant he kept saying I would have to wait til I see my neurologist
The question here being is there anyone out there that can explain to me WHAT is a non-epileptic fit to a USUAL epileptic fit please

hmmm I have never heard of this myself either, I thought there was only one anyway but then I am not in the medical field, I guess like most things there are various types of everything...I hope they can look after both types for you, goodluck.

I think your doctor probably meant you have a noncolvulsive type and a convulsive
type also. I have absence seizures which are a nonconvulsive type where I become
unaware for a period of time. They are under control with medication now, but for
awhile I couldn't drive and I would drop things or fall down because of a seizure. I have been seizure
free for ten years now. If you have any questions maybe I can help you answer them. Good luck.

I'm glad you have so many doctors looking into your problem. I hope they get to the bottom of things soon and get your seizures under control. The whole process can be very frustrating, but hang in there. When I finally was sent to a neuro.
that believed me, he did a 4 hour MRI on me and found the place in my brain where
the seizures were originating. Until that time, I have my doubts whether many of the other doctors believed I was having them.

Hi drumfelt it is good to have all the doctors looking into it but also makes me feel like a gunea pig at times
they have given me MRI scans too and thats how they found I don't have a scar on my brain so they didn't need to operate
was I glad cos they wouldn't of got my permission to do so if I had-thats a 50-50 chance anyway of hopefully getting rid of it and it doesn't always work-your friend littleowl

Hi circumfelt-I have not long seen my neuroligist and she has said that it can also be caused by emotional stress etc and that she now wants to refer me to another neurologist as well so she can make an evalution too plus I am reducing one of my aed's I still have the blank spells get very confused over quite a lot of things I also have short term memory loss as well as the convulsive turns have also been told that the non epiletic seizures could also be to do with diet! well guess they are just going to have to help me decipher which is which cos I do have petty mals--its so confusing...have had epilepsy for 30 yrs now and they have only just found this out..if I need anymore advice will ask you thanks very much-your friend littleowl

Does he mean two different types of seizures? One non-epileptic and the other caused from epilepsy? When do you see your neurologist? I hope you get some answers soon. You're in my thoughts.

Hi Rowantree thanks so much for all that information..I have been tested for diabetes as at one time I thought I may have it but the diognosise was that I haven't now since seeing my neurologist she has referred me to another neoroligist who knows more about it and will be able to see what the reason is I have these turns..but have also been told that I do have both forms of epilepsy but they are going to reduce my aed's as I am on a lot of them to control it..one that I am reducing though I seriously want to come off of as it actually causes me to have these seizures...thanks once again for all the information and will definitley get back to you if I need more help...bright blessings littleowl

Hi Littleowl I hae never suffered from epilesy but I do know that there are two types, Grand mal and petie mal, proably haven't got spelling right. Petite mal is more like a trance like state whereas grand mal is a full blown epliletic fit. I wouldalso question whether these fits are a physic attack. I don't mean to frighten you at all but in some instances they can be so place extra protection around yourslef at this time. I will too until they have got to the route cause yeah. Hugs. Ellie:D

Hi Ellie-I know about these and have had grand mal seizures when I was in my teens and have hurt myself pretty badly in some of those, there is also minor seizures which don't last for as long as a grand mal which I have also had then the petite mal as you have said which I suffer from at the moment plus the minor fits-what I don't know about is a non-epileptic fit!!
that is a really new one to me!-hugs litleowl

Good day, littleowl. There are two major types of epilepsy: Idiopathic and the Sympthomatic or Cryptogenic. The latter's cause remains unknown but the Idiopathic is said to have genetic causes. I don't know exactly what non-epileptic fit is. I just hope you get better soon, though you seem to go through it just fine. Take care!

Hi Weng-good o hear from you-what does Sympthomatic or Cryptogenic mean-yes I beleive mine is genetic but what the non-epiletic seizures mean I am not sure-unfortunatley though it is an illness that continues throughout your life but has been known for some to grow out of it-your friend littleowl

Thanks for the best response. I am glad that you are taking things the way you do...it takes a lot of courage and faith. I salute you for that. Too bad I can't tell much about it either. I wish I could really help.
Anyway, symptomatic are said to be those that have identifiable cause, for example, an accident caused paralysis, or a trauma brought about epilepsy. It is when a sickness is caused by a more specific factor/s.

I am sorry I don't know much about epilepsy wish I could help you out more. Hope everything is okay, and it is nothing too serious. It would be so hard living with epilepsy, how long have you known that you have had it for? I do remember that you had epilepsy just not sure if you mentioned how long you have had this before? Please let me know after you have talked to the neurologist, take care my friend.

I am sorry I can't help you out. I don't know anything about epilepsy at all. I know how horrible it is though to only find out a part of something and then to be left hanging to wait. Have you looked it up a the net? Maybe you can get some kind of an idea from there.

Hi Celest'-thats ok not everyone does know much about epilepsy-it is a frightening thing though when it happens especially if your concious of what is happening and have no control over it..at one time I did black out during a seizure that wasn't so bad as I really wasn't aware of what was happening-your friend littleowl
